Reina del jardín, on the throne with the plantitas. Mamá says the plants will feel safe to bloom when they are heard, loved, cared for, given a safe space to be free and grow. I always appreciate the ways she taught me so much about ourselves through the garden. We are seed and soil, sun and water, stewards to our gardens. 🌱💛
Happy Monday! 🌱☀️
Creating home for maíz:
We take a couple weeks to prep the land for the maíz. Either me or my dad escarbamos la tierra; directly translated it’s “scratch” the earth. It means that we dig, turn the soil, remove roots from grass or other plants in the space, we dig more, we add in new soil, mix it with the old, we water, we turn again, we work until a home is ready for seeds.
We line up rows for them, 2 seeds per hole, the first and last seeds are special. We lay the first in the soil and before covering them with soil, we pray. We pray for abundance, that they be strong, that they be happy, that they feel safe to grow with us. The last two seeds receive a prayer as well, as a completion of that years intentions and blessings to the maíz. Whoever lays the first and last seeds, it’s their prayers that will guide that years growth. Last year it was mamá, this year it’s me.
We planted late March, let’s see what this years maíz looks like ☺️🌽💛
Created this collage piece for the fam over at @@fir@firmearte in support of Angelo. Swipe to see donation info. All my love, #endmassincarceration .
RP from @firmearte IG ——Angelo was wrongfully convicted & incarcerated as a child for a crime they did not commit, they have spent 13 years in a maximum security penitentiary as a innocent human. Now we have found ourselves with a abundant blessing in the form of a senate bill 1437 that former governor Jerry Brown passed as one of his last acts as governor which will allow people convicted under the natural and probable cause theory to be resentenced giving Angelo the opportunity to finally be released a free human from prison as that old barbaric system (NPC theory) is now deemed illegal and Unconstitutional. Babes we need your help. It takes a lot for me to be this open and honest about something I know is so intense for people to hear. This happens more than we would want to admit, innocent women, children and people of color are heavily affected by such outdated and heinous laws. There is no revolution or evolution without the destruction of the prison industrial complex. I know we can’t change it over night but we can help an innocent human being & powerful wizard finally come home.
their family and I have started fundraising out of our desperation as we have found ourselves in a gnarly time crunch to raise enough money to get us through this next stage of the appeals process. We have to raise the money by June 18th 2019

Thank you. As always my fam & I are holding space for anyone who has or had a loved one who is incarcerated and has had to fight to get them home through a corrupt system. I love you. Thank you for listening.

My homegirl @adriana_arri aka @adrianalaartista is graduating from her MFA program at UC Davis today. Wow. What a blessing to have seen her creativity blossom over the years of knowing her. Thankful to the MAS Department at SJSU for being the home we met and built a friendship in. Love you, Adriana! We’re all so so proud!! #barrerasfavoritealums 🌹🌵💛👩🏽🎓
