When your friend is so talented that they’re even able to get your life on track they deserve a slow clap. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 @aperfectblendteaching’s first notepad made its way over here and it’s just perfect. Happy Friday!!!💙
Our new leadership board is up complete with their group reflections on everything they want in a leader. The discussion came full circle when we focused on how they can be/are just the kind of leader they want to follow. 💙Swipe to see the same board two years ago. I’ll be adding this new board title to my Leadership Bulletin Board Kit resource! Link in profile.
Spreading that positivity everywhere! Happy Friday to y’all! 💙
Wrapping books and leaving the summaries for students to vote on for their next set of books! There will be 10 from the second pic to choose from. I love the book club process as a whole and have done it so many ways with grades 2-5. It’s all about what works for your class. I’m happy to answer questions. 😉 Our collaborative project piece at the end is always one of my favorites to watch in action!Swipe to see the paper and digital options. 35 incredible profiles of lives and stories that have so much potential to open up discussions in our class! I’m adding this one to our library, and I have so many ideas running through my mind of other lessons it could tie into! Read on for more. 😉 Thank you tons, @harperkid@harpercollinsch!
1️⃣ Use this book as a jumping point for in depth research into biographies or on the movements/causes themselves.
2️⃣Tie in current events by pairing a profile with a related news article. Ideas of where to search for articles in my “news” highlight.
3️⃣Hello, paired texts! Pair a profile with a fiction/nonfiction text on a similar topic. This is such a struggle for my students when it comes to this, but not when the material is actually interesting! 😆
4️⃣Find major themes based on a person’s life and the events surrounding what they fought for.
5️⃣Have students research one of the figures as a class and create a social media post from their perspective.
6️⃣You could also have students write an accompanying news article based on further research of a figure. Tie in a discussion of text structures and have them identify the best structure to use for their written piece. Pair share and have students determine the structures of each other’s pieces when finished.
That week before break was a complete whirlwind, and I’ve never left my plans for when we come back unfinished...but I did...and I’m in my observation window starting Tuesday. The world isn’t over! I know my principal could pop in any minute and I should be planning for the current standard, but we need to spend a hot minute going over our high expectations school-wide, classroom wise, and for ourselves! My day 1 plan of action is as follows-
1️⃣Have students partner up with a food partner. These are our cards that stay on their reading notebooks. Established the first week of school and changing my life ever since! Link in profile.
2️⃣ In partners students will get two different “A Leader...” cards to reflect and respond to together. We’ll share and discuss what it means to be a leader, what leadership qualities matter the most as we continue on, and what they want in a leader they’d follow. We’re a LIM school, so my Leadership Bulletin Board Kit ties in perfectly.
3️⃣ This is going up in our classroom! Crazy enough I have wall space, and I’m excited to use it. The second “A Leader...” card partners complete will go in our hallway for the school to see. Sharing our fifth grade knowledge! 😉
Choosing one word of the year has always been so hard for me! So many things I want to be or to really focus on. I realized that in a way we’ve always had a one word of the year thing going for us!😉 I love how this is part of other elementary/ms/hs classrooms, bulletin boards, lunch rooms, and hallways too. 2018 has been one crazy and memorable year! 💙
Hello new last name, had the best 5th grade surprise announcement with my then fourth graders, pulling off such a fun science night with a collaborative team, choked up hard and ugly cried on Noah’s first day of kinder, and had the Today show come to film my class in action! I never thought all of that would be in one description together. 😆
I’m forever thankful for IG bringing all of us together in one space celebrating and motivating each other. 2019, I’m ready for you!
