Albert Mann Gewurztraminer 2016 • 🏠 A much respected winery not just in Alsace, but all over the world, Albert Mann has set some standards for white winemaking. The Rieslings stick out as their flagships, while the Gewurz and Pinots tag along as "informal" accessibilities. The winery is certified organic and biodynamic since 2010 and in 2016 they had a superb harvest, one of those Indian summer vintages where everything is fine and dandy. • 🍇 Gewurztraminer • 👅 To be honest, much has improved on this Gewurztraminer when compared to older vintages I've tried. I have an impression that the winemakers finally realized that they were pumping out overly-perfumed wines to the stage and decided to bring it down a notch. The 2016 still offered staple aromas of white roses, Turkish delight and lychee, but they were nicely packed and handed to me gently. The palate was oily and possessed a certain bitter tone that skated all the way to the finish line, but was nicely complemented with a surprisingly crisp acidity. I'm not a huge fan of this grape, but I must say that the Manns did good this time. Props to that. • 🇫🇷 Alsace (Alsace, France) • 💰 €21
