Monday Motivation - I am entirely off the Whole30 path but I have decided to have Whole30 days when I am not out and about for work/ friends. So today I am starting my week with chia seed pudding, berries, banana, cashew nut butter, goji berries and flaked almonds. EAT YOUR VEGGIES! 💚 . . As a kid, my mum wouldn’t let me leave the dinner table until I ate all my veggies. This would often result in me falling asleep with my head on the table several hours & many attempts to escape later. I was a stubborn little sh*t but so was she & I’m very grateful for it today as it turns out she was on to something. Even though I resented it at the time, I grew up with the understanding that veggies are an absolutely essential part of the human diet & should be consumed with every meal - even breakfast! . . I’m disturbed when I find out how little natural plant food some people consume which is why increasing veggie intake immediately is one of the very first things I do with most of my clients. I recommend 4-5 handfuls minimum of non-starchy veggies per day & don’t really place any upper limit on them. . . WHY ARE VEGGIES RIDICULOUSLY GOOD? . . 💚Vegetables are nutrient dense. They pack a lot of nutrition into a minimum of calories. For a measly 35 calories (the amount in one little teaspoon of butter), you can get a half cup of vegetables that contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, & health-building substances, called phytonutrients . . 💚They can help with bloating & water retention. Veggies are rich in fiber, which flushes out waste & gastric irritants & prevents constipation by keeping the digestive tract moving.They are also rich in both potassium & water, which help flush excess sodium out of the body while restoring the body's normal fluid balance. . . 💚They can reduce cellulite. Estrogen detoxification happens through the gut & an increase in fibrous veggies can help excrete cellulite-promoting hormones . . 💚You can fill up for less. Because of the fiber in veggies, you get fuller faster; which is another reason why it’s nearly impossible to overeat non-starchy veggies (unless you cover them in butter like i love to….) . . 💚They can contain phytonutrients & antioxidants that help prevent cancer. Cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, & broccoli have high amounts of indoles & isothiocyanates. These components have protective properties against colon cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer, & some other types of cancers
