What are your fall and winter traditions? Besides decorating for the holidays, is there something you do every year as the seasons change and the year winds down? 🍁
Eight years ago, I started making a family album every fall. Starting sometime in October, I go through our photographs from the prior year and organize them into a hardcover book. The program that I use allows for an album of 100 pages. That forces me to choose only the best pictures - which is quite difficult! In the past, when I worked in urgent care and my kids were younger, I had time to agonize over the arrangement and choice of photos. Now that I run my #directprimarycare practice and my children have more activities, I have to finish the album in a day or two. 😱This forces me to be less of a perfectionist. 🍁
What I love about this tradition is that it allows me to pause and reflect on the passage of time. As I’m looking through images of our travels, special times with loved ones, school events etc., I’m reminded of how lucky we are. The love we celebrate with friends and family scrolls across the computer screen. I see children getting taller and elders getting grayer. And I see myself evolving too.
When it’s finished, the album morphs from something virtual into a tangible form of memories. I order 3 copies: one for my house, one for my parents, and one for my in-laws. They arrive, packaged like a book that was just published and smelling like a bookstore. Immediately, I put them aside and we don’t open our copy until Christmas Day. After everyone looks at it, it becomes our coffee table book. And on any given day, we can flip through it, reminisce and be grateful for the blessings in our life.
Whatta vibe at @centraltandt!! 🌮 All different types of craft margs...our favorites were the Watermelon Mint and Lemon Blueberry. 🍹 The Mexican Street Corn...oh.my.gosh...it was delicious. 🌽🤤 Central is a great part of the overall super cool vibe of the Haddon/Westmont area! 🚉💯
