What advise would you give your teenage self? ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ My advise would be to stop worrying and comparing yourself to others, you are actually ok 👍🏻. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ Fear of failure can be a strong motivating force, but little is spoken about the fear of success. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ In the past, I was reminded by people how I could learn from any mistakes made; whether it was in figure skating competitions, academic tests or in work settings. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ However, no one ever spoke on how to handle success. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ In high school, I vividly remember getting bright red avoiding to answer questions about test exam results that I’ve done well in. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ I felt ashamed, even though the results were down to hard work. As a teenager I didn’t want to come across as boasting or sticking out in any way. It was uncool to do well, so I settled with B grades rather than striving for A’s. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ Perhaps I was not prepared on how to handle success (even moderate ones). Doing well meant I had to live up to others and my own expectations to continually perform at that level. Settling at a slightly lower level came with the cost of decreasing my self esteem, as I knew I could do better. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ This fear of success can be inhibiting, as we avoid risks and lower our standards in order to reach it. It often has a knock on effect decreasing our self esteem. ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ When I’m working with clients on low self esteem issues, we aim to get to the root of the problem, before strengthening and building up the belief in themselves. It’s so rewarding witnessing how decades of poor self esteem can be reversed through collaborative therapeutic work. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • #hkwellness #hkwellbeing #counseling #counselling #counsellor #men#mentalhealthseling #support #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #breakstigmas #nostigma #mentalhealthadvocate #timetotalk #its#itsokaytbeok #itsokay #letstalk #personalgrowth #psychologicalwellbeing #positivepsychology #thinkbetter #lovethelifeyoulive #livejoyfully #psychology #wellbeing #selfworth #selfhelp #selfesteem #selfawareness via @preview.app

Warning: Unplanned post, coherent sentences cannot be guaranteed. • The last several months, and especially the last few days, have been really hard for me. One might say I'm experiencing my quarter life crisis, both professionally and more recently, unfortunately, personally. I've been struggling with anxiety, and probably some depression, and it has me paying a lot more attention to how I calm myself down. I've been trying everything from bubble baths to massages to meditation, some with more success than others. • Millenials get touted as the self care generation, usually not in a positive way. But it's not because we're obsessed with pampering ourselves. We're also the anxiety generation, and the burnout generation, so without that self care we just don't make it. Finding what can truly bring you peace is so important. Equally important is being able to talk about the pain that peace is needed for. For me, I've found finding a quiet place and breathing in the crisp air, taking in the calm around me and wondering at it is the most relaxing thing I can do. • To my amazing family and friends (and cat) who have done everything from check on me, force me out of bed, make sure I'm eating, and getting me out of my apartment to socialize the last few days, I can't thank you enough. I needed it, and I still will, and I know you got me. • To everyone, it's okay if you're having a hard time. Reach out to those around you. Talk about it. Indulge in all the self care you desire. And don't forget to look up in wonder. • • • #timetotalk #mentalhealth #quarterlifecrisis #selfcare #anxiety #burnout #outdoorsy #optoutside #ADK #snowshoeingadventures #TheWorldAsIDiscoverIt #ltdfam #gltlove #womentravel #tra#travelgirl #travel #letsgosomewhere #discoverer #discoverwithme #wanderlust #wheredoyouwander #explore #worldexplorer #travelblogger #travelphotography #photography #photoamateur #naturefix

WHY YOU NEED A PROFESSIONAL COUNSELLOR Almost all of us experience periods of stress, sadness, grief and conflict at some point in our lives. So if you are going through such a period of life it can be hard to know if it’s time to seek professional help about the problem. Contrary to the popular belief, one doesn’t have to be “crazy,” desperate or on the brink of a meltdown to go for counselling. Perhaps you have been thinking about seeing a counselor for a while. There are days you feel really low and feel like you need to speak to someone as soon as possible. Then other days you feel better and the thought of ringing a counselor goes away. But the underlying causes that make you feel low are still there and you inevitably feel worse again in a few days time. It is normal to feel apprehensive about seeing a counselor for the first time. Also it can be hard to accept you might need help. Asking for help can make the problem seem more real: you can’t show that it’s all OK so easily. Sometimes the signs are visible but at other times, something may feel slightly off and you can’t figure out what it is. So you drag on, trying to maintain your busy life until you realize that life has become unmanageable.
