Pretty sure Gritty single-handedly lost us the game, but it was still the best. #BestieTime #LeatherJacketsClub #WhyIsHeAlwaysStaringAtMe

(Reviewed OCT 2014) On the surface this looks like a monster movie, but it also serves as a drama about a single mother (Amelia) and her son (Samuel), coping with life. Amelia's husband dies whilst driving her to the hospital, to give birth to Samuel. The relationship between mother and son is sour, as they feel lost, grief and anger at each other. Add to this, Samuel starts seeing a monster, Mister Babadook. Is the monster real? Is he making things up to get attention? Or is the mother on the brink of insanity? Is the monster really his mother? There are many spine-tingling moments that are heightened due to the strong emotional connection between mother and son. This is in debt to the superb performances by the leads, especially Essie Davies, who makes one of the most memorable 'losing her mind' horror characters in a long while. The movie is awash with a grey palette, which gives it an eerie and almost gothic feel. CGI was used to a minimal, which is always welcome. Very fortunate to have such a good horror movie as we approach Halloween. By the way, i also want that Mister Babadook pop-up book, it looks so cool!!! #thebabadook #fantasy #horrormovies #bedtimestories
