#throwback sunday was equally exciting and sobering. Attended the MY Climate Rally event at wisma Sogo, with @shaqkoyok_art representing OA/Asal, as indigenous issues are intertwined with environmental concerns. Malaysia has had been in the news lately, from illegal waste disposal, pollution, to lax response to stopping destructive projects such as oil palm and dam building in native lands- it was positive to see activists gathered together to actively show solidarity with worldwide movements to address climate change and environmental issues. A more sobering movie trip to see Funan as part of #lefrenchfestivalmy animation based on the Khmer Rouge regime. Learning about the recent Sri Lanka terrorist attacks on the day, the movie was eerily relevant- the effects of destructive ideologies, and its impact irregardless of race, religion- violence will never solve issues, and its always the vulnerable who suffer... #myclimaterally #art #activism #indigenousresistance #indigenouspride #indigenousrights #orangasli #nativerights #nativeart #environmentalism #nativepride #socialactivism #malaysia #kualalumpur #greenliving #sarawak

~𝐧𝐢 𝐦𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐥𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐣𝐭𝐨𝐤~ Eurocentric religion may have taken our land and our rights, but we must never forget the struggles, sacrifices, and ultimate slaying of our ancestors. We hold the power of entire civilizations at our finger tips.

ICE destroys families. These are pictures from yesterday outside of the Homestead Detention Center at 920 Bougainville Blvd. People are out here everyday making some noise and letting the kids know people care about them. You can actually get on a step ladder, see, and waive at these innocent, locked up, fellow brown skinned, indigenous blooded children. They don't deserve this. #GetInvolved #fuckICE #abolishICE #Miami #cutlerbay #goulds #naranja #redlands #flo#florida #homestead #miamiactivism #immigrants #immigrantrights #nativerights #indigenousrights #florida

The remains of a fishing boat in a cemetery in the Ahousaht First Nation village of Maaqtusiis on Vargas Island, Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia, Canada. Three Ahousaht fishermen, all brothers, were lost to the ocean one wild day in 1958 off the Pacific Northwest coast. The plaque nailed to the boat reads, Lost At Sea. Archive Project SALMON AND CEDAR This is the final photograph I am sharing from this photo reportage project, well over a decade old and the first I ever began as a photographer. Early this year on February 12, 2019 - 12 years after Canada voted against the 2007 UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples - the British Columbia provincial government announced plans to introduce legislation that would finally implement the 2007 UN Declaration. In 2007 the world's Indigenous Peoples of many countries celebrated the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The UN secretary general at the time, Ban Ki-moon, described it as a "historic moment when UN member states and Indigenous Peoples have reconciled with their painful histories and are resolved to move forward together on the path of human rights, justice and development for all." The 2007 declaration was over 25 years in the making and saw 144 states vote in its favour, with - predictably - four colonialist nations voting against — Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. Over a decade ago I spent two years living on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada as a postgraduate anthropology student. As soon as I arrived I realised I knew nothing in the most profound sense. No amount of reading had prepared me and all preconceptions fell away. After nearly a year slowly overcoming people’s distrust, of listening to the stories of abuses eventually shared; those of the church, the state, of corporate greed, environmental destruction and exploitation, I began to learn of their strength and capacity for survival, of how much had been taken from them, of the horrific depth of injustice.
