Yes! Hypervigilant, overactive, tense, tight pelvic floor muscles. It’s a thing. Hyperactive Pelvic Muscles can be mistaken for weak muscles. Because sometimes the symptoms are so similar. Incontinence/leakage, pelvic pain, painful sex, or a sense of ‘core weakness’ are some of the symptoms that women describe. ⠀

So how would you know of your PFM are ‘hyperactive’ or of they could do with some strengthening work? Quick answer - get a Pelvic Floor Vaginal Exam. Yes, a VE - over an ultrasound assessment because it is way more accurate! ⠀

The ability to contract & relax a muscle is what makes it useful & functional. When you have difficulty either generating force, or over doing a muscle contraction- it’s useful to learn how to contract & relax that muscle/group in isolation & during movement. Because ya know, that’s what we humans do! How you move is equally important 😉⠀
