Looking back on something beautiful can bring pain. Going through something painful can create beauty. ⚖️ all in equal measures.

If you want to share your thoughts and experiences please do so! I get this question a lot from runners in my clinic so I thought I would share some of my opinions. There will always be different cases that support one camp from another but here are some common beliefs. 1.) You need to change your shoes based on time (eg. Every 6-12 months) 2.) You need to change your shoes based on distance (eg. Every 1000kms) For me these two solutions are flawed. In case of scenario 1, people run different frequencies, speeds and distances therefore shoes would wear out at different rates. On the other hand, with scenario 2 shoes will be bulked up in different areas, made from different materials and a runner’s individual strike pattern would change the rate of wear. So this is what I tell my runners who are not injured. Only change your shoes once there is significant wear and tear. So turn them upside down and have a look at how much tread is left. Mild wear and tear is just a case of your shoe adapting to your foot and strike pattern. This is not a situation for concern. This opinion will change for a runner with toe, arch, heel and foot pain but only in curtain circumstances. I hope this provides clarity and perhaps relief. If you want to share your thoughts and experiences please do so! #fastrunning #iloverunning #melbourne_insta #melbournefitness #melbourneinstarunners #melbournerunners #runhappy #running #runningform #runningstrength #runstrong #strengthandconditioning #strengthforrunners #strengthtraining

I’m dedicating my run at Jells this morning to the memory of Peter Tran, a Melbourne runner who sadly passed away on February 8th. I unfortunately never met Peter in person, but knew of his running through Instagram. Sincere condolences to his family & friends. RIP Peter 💙 👟 💙 #parkrunau #melbourneinstarunners #run#runningeburbs #iranhere #justrun #melbournerunners #thisgirlcanVIC #running #loveparkrun

Please share if you see benefit and let’s get this knowledge out there! Just read this article from Richard Blagrove and thought I would summarise the findings. 1. Strength training enhances running economy by 2-8% 2. It also improves anaerobic running performance 1.1-3.4% 3. It has no negative effects on max oxygen capacity, blood lactate or body composition. Conclusion: heavy resistance, explosive resistance and/or Plyometrics appears to provide benefits to runners of all ability levels. #strengthtraining #fastrunning #iloverunning #melbourne_insta #melbournefitness #melbourneinstarunners #melbournerunners #runhappy #running #runningform #runningstrength #runstrong #strengthandconditioning #strengthforrunners
