Lunges. Any form of lunge in the sagittal plane of motion (front and back) should be done with a stable foot position that is hip width apart. ❌✅ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A common and often overlooked mistake is walking with one foot in front of the other as if walking on a tight rope. The downside to this is you are putting yourself in a position of poor balance, and greatly increasing the risk of knee Valgus and reducing your abductors (glutes) ability to assist in the movement. 🍑 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Walking with your feet hip width apart, as if walking on a ladder or wearing skis 🎿 will keep your knees tracking in better alignment and giving your knees and hips a much greater amount of balance, control and power. This will also lead to an increased amount of weight that you can carry resulting in a higher overload of the target muscles. Due to my growing bump I’ve had to make alterations to my normal workouts. This has included lighter weights, slower movements concentrating on good posture and stabilising the core, more rests and ensuring not to get too hot. I’m lucky I have had straight forward pregnancy with no complications. Always seek the clearance of your doctor, OB or midwife before commencing exercise while pregnant.
