A before and after from my client, I attempted to draw a “straight” line down the frontal plane to illustrate a much improved spinal(neck) position. ••• Of course the obvious, he has lost weight, truthfully, this is usually a secondary or tertiary objective when I bring someone through a certain phase of training. A lot of trainers get caught in the trap of making their client “burn calories” or “lose weight” instead of correcting at times, very serious positional issues, the long term negative implications of spinal dysfunction WILL inhibit performance and ultimately the clients goal, whether it be muscle gain or fat loss. ••• IMO a good exercise program if nothing more, reinforces stable and correct positions and strengthens them(stop doing calf raises and leg presses). Physical activity only accounts for around 30% of energy expenditure(PN, 2018), with some peoples estimates being FAR less, getting you client to swear profusely or die from burpees isn’t a program(they have a place) that’s built for the long term.
