😒Why the top coaches sports psych advise failed me ——— 🤔I was taught thinking positive about yourself and performance will give you every advantage in the book. Things like “Don’t ever say I can’t, don’t focus on the negative, only focus on yourself, and most of all positive self talk”. ——— 🤨For me I perform better being the underdog. Trying to think about positive emotions all the time just doesn’t work for me. I have tried it. I end up giving a half assed effort. ——— 🚦In competitions I actually hate focusing just on myself. I probably would do horrible at every single one if I did that.. Its a competition.. against other people.. that you are trying to beat.. This allows me to gauge the effort I must put in. We're always trying to put the least amount of effort to accomplish the goal right? or maybe just in metcons ——— 🖐🏻OMG, I actually hate when people try to tell me to use positive self-talk. Idk, maybe I have a few screws loose. I just found when I tried to pump irrational thoughts of my ability into my head my performance went down. I don’t like to think I am my own cheerleader. Instead I am always thinking differently than what I was taught. ——— 👌🏻When I am about to do a lift or timed piece something like this comes through my head, “John, there is guys lifting way more weight here, you have to hit this to even stand a chance or John, can you actually move on burpees this set, you are moving like a snail”. ——— 🙋🏻‍♂️I have found what works for me. Its not the typical method though. We are all different. YOU must find what works for YOU. Any other weirdos out there like me?
