6x4 deadlifts (first two sets as warm ups) and a rest/pause on last set... shown here. _ I almost always open my workout with a heavy compound exercise. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ One reason I like to emphasize heavy weight early in the workout is because of what's known as "potentiation". _ This term refers to what happens when you have the muscles produce a maximal effort which then increases the nervous systems capacity to engage muscle fibers during any subsequent strength work. _ In other words, any higher rep work you do AFTER the initial strength sets becomes even more effective because you opened your workout with heavy weights. And the more muscle fibers you can recruit and fatigue the more potential you have for muscle growth. By training heavy right out of the gate you turn on the nervous system, or prime it, and it helps to increase the muscle building potential of any following hypertrophy work.
