Full Moo Ironman triathlete Mike Skillings rode the Maldon & District CC 50 mile time trial last weekend. Here's his race report. "This was my first 50 mile time trial. The winds were light... no excuses there then! Transiting to the start I managed to miss a turn, so ended up doing a couple of extra miles warm-up... which actually (ultimately) made me feel more prepared. We'd come up with a power level to maintain for the first hour, then a plan to go by feel for the second, plus any extra minutes required(!) The recurring thought I had was “get more aero”, thus ending up with the feed tube of my Giant Trinity nearly up my nose! Another steep learning curve is that, as a long time trial progresses you may feel you are pushing harder, but actually your wattage is likely to be declining due to the onset of fatigue - even with the perceived effort being greater. Results? An overall finish time of 2hr 17mins 31secs. Or approx 21.8mph."
