If your baby has ever gone to sleep at 8 PM and woken up at 1 AM, they slept through the night. Congrats!! ___ However most healthy newborns awaken every 2 to 3 hours, 24 hours a day, to eat. For some babies, this pattern of waking during the night continues for many months. If you’re currently on #teamnosleep, just know balancing sleep and night feedings is temporary and your baby will eventually outgrow this stage. There is light at the end of this sleep-deprived tunnel!⁣ ⁣___ If you're hoping for baby to have a longer stretch of sleep, it's important that he or she feeds a lot during the day. For example, if your baby is waking up for three night feedings, those feedings need to be moved to during the day. They can't simply be omitted. Alternatively, a baby should not be forced to eat more than he/she is willing to eat either, so this may or may not work. Many babies eat at least once during the night. These night feeds can be the largest for the 24-hour period and make up 20% of baby's total milk intake. Night feeds are important but they won't last forever! Who else has a baby who loves to fall asleep on the boob?
