I really enjoyed The Municipalists by Seth Fried — it was definitely outside of my book comfort zone (tbh I’m not totally sure what genre this book falls under), so I was a bit worried initially that I wouldn’t like it but it was a fascinating story! I read it super quickly too, in less than twenty-four hours. The writing was very James Bond-ish but still full of enough factoids that it felt like a cross between sci-fi, mystery and historical fiction. ✨ The Municipalists follows the story of USMS agent Henry Thompson and his AI companion, OWEN, as they try to uncover and thwart a plot by domestic terrorists, who want to destroy and then rebuild the largest city in America, Metropolis. Along the way, Henry (who is a very by-the-book guy) is forced to confront ugly realities about himself, his job and the world in which he lives. ✨ I can definitely see this book becoming popular with book clubs or high school reading lists because it’s an upbeat and adventurous story while also being packed full of interesting relevant modern topics for debate and discussion. If you haven’t grabbed this one yet, I’d absolutely recommend it!
