Look, I'm going to be honest with you guys: I'm very pissed off at G.R.R Martin and Game of Thrones. I'm pissed off at Martin for being such an incredibly slow writer, and I'm pissed off at the fact that unless I spend the next 40 years off the internet and in my house, the ending of my favourite book series of all time is going to be ruined for me. . Sure, I'm sure there'll be differences but many of the important things are going to be the same. I'm already annoyed that I found out confirmation of Jon's parentage through spoilers regarding the show, rather than the book. I know it's a worldwide phenomenon and a lot of people love the show, and I'm happy they're getting the ending, but honestly, I'm just upset. . โ€ข day 14 of #grimdragon - 'there's no cure for being a cunt' (Cersei, I love you) . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #asoiaf #asongoficeandfire #gameofthrones #got #fantasy #fantasynovels #fantasybooks #feastforcrows #affc #cersei #cerseilannister//

I don't know how to talk about Other Words for Smoke. I've been enjoying most of the books I've read this year but I've been feeling a sense of disconnection, and I find it hard to get lost in the words on the page. I didn't have that with this book: I was completely enthralled, and I devoured it. . 'The house at the end of the lane burned down, and Rita Frost and her teenage ward, Bevan, were never seen again. The townspeople never learned what happened. Only Mae and her brother Rossa know the truth; they spent two summers with Rita and Bevan, two of the strangest summers of their lives... Because nothing in that house was as it seemed: a cat who was more than a cat, and a dark power called Sweet James that lurked behind the wallpaper, enthralling Bevan with whispers of neon magic and escape. And in the summer heat, Mae became equally as enthralled with Bevan. Desperately in the grips of first love, she'd give the other girl anything. A dangerous offer when all that Sweet James desired was a taste of new flesh...' . Sarah Maria Griffin's writing is incredibly beautiful: poetic, lyrical, descriptive, and honestly, delicious. She completely transported me to this strange house, she made me fall in love with her characters, and she sent a chill up my spine because Other Words for Smoke is gorgeously creepy and unsettling. Every description of Sweet James and the house gave me goosebumps. The use of Irish history as inspiration - the Grotto, the Magdalene laundry - was so beautifully and respecfully done, at times I found myself tearing up. . There's so much I could ramble about here: the gorgeous plot, the beautiful writing, the realistic characters, the LGBT rep as if it's no big deal instead of 'diversity points', but I'm going to run out of characters in this caption. Other Words for Smoke is phenomenal, and easily the best book I've read all year. Sarah Maria Griffin is very, very quickly becoming one of my favourite authors, and I feel very lucky getting to read her glorious stories. 5๐ŸŒŸ . โ€ข day 13 of #grimdragon - I'm so in love with you, it hurts.

I have an unhealthy relationship with food and diets; having always been overweight with a severe addiction to crisps, I've tried every 'superfood' and fad diet out there. It's really time to break that cycle and change my attitude, and so when I heard about a book debunking health food claims and pseudoscience, I had to read it. . The Angry Chef is without a doubt an angry man. His first book looks at the pseudoscience behind cancer 'cures', coconut oil, the alkaline diet, saturated fat etc. He's not trying to deny that unhealthy food is bad for you in some regards - we all need variety in our diets - but this concept of putting food into 'good' and 'bad' categories is bullshit. No food is inherently bad; we just need a better balance. . I really enjoyed this book: it's already helped reshape so many of my attitudes towards food. I'm not going to feel guilty about eating a bar of chocolate, but I'm going to try to be better at eating fruit and vegetables etc. Warner also beautifully debunks the 'science' behind crazy fad diets like alkaline ash and the concept that it can cure cancer, as well as the idea that coconut oil is a magical cure-all for everything. The Angry Chef is written with such a readable, funny style and it makes even the most science elements fun to read. 4 ๐ŸŒŸ . โ€ข day 10 of #grimdragon - I shit you not. . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #theangrychef #anthonywarner #food #foodbooks #science #sciencebooks #nonfiction #nonfictionbooks #raireviews #bookreview #reviews//

I'm ashamed to say that I don't seem to read many diverse books. But, I've been trying my best to read more POC authors and books with more POC and LGBT characters. The Poppy War meets this on both counts, and it's a fantastic novel so it's definitely a winner. . Congratulations on surviving Monday; we're a day closer to the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Have you anything nice planned for this week? . โ€ข day 8 of #grimdragon - #diversereads . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #thepoppywar #historicalfiction #ireadya #ireadyalit #ireadyabooks #ireadyanovels #fantasy #fantasynovels #fantasybooks #rfkuang//

Does anything say fancy like royalty? I don't think so, and this biography is also fancy as fuck. The cover is gorgeous, it's embossed and textured, it's floppy and there's incredible illustrations on the inside. This is one of the most expensive books I own but it was worth it for how beautiful it is. It helps that the content was also a 5 ๐ŸŒŸ read! . In a bid to make myself feel better I spent today cleaning out my wardrobe; it's so satisfying cleaning out clothes you don't wear anymore, and creating space to get more. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Although I'm determined that I will no longer buy clothes I'm not 100% sure I'll wear. The amount of things I put in the 'to donate' pile with tags still on is disgraceful. ๐Ÿ˜” I hope you've all had a lovely weekend. . โ€ข day 7 of #grimdragon - fancy as fuck. . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #catherinethegreat #robertkmassie #history #historybooks #nonfictionbooks #nonfiction//

One of the drawbacks to rereading asoiaf is remembering how young all of the characters are. Daenerys is only 13 at the beginning, and is married off to a man twice her age; it's...unsettling. I still don't really understand why Martin chose to do this, and it's the one good thing I think has come out of the adaptation - at least the characters are appropriate ages. Or more appropriate than the books anyway. . Hope you all had a lovely Saturday! My day has involved a lot of vomiting and a lot of reading so, swings and roundabouts I suppose! ๐Ÿ˜‚ . โ€ข day 6 of #grimdragon - it's only awkward if you make it awkward. . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #asoiaf #asongoficeandfire #gameofthrones #got #fantasy #fantasynovels #fantasybooks #dany #motherofdragons #daenerystargaryen//

An incredible main character, violence, sarcasm, a shadow cat, a twisty plot and lgbt rep? Don't mind if I do! Yes, I'm talking about Nevernight again and look, I'll be honest, I'm never going to stop. This series isn't over yet and it's already one of my all time favourites. . I have seen many bad reviews of The Cabin at the End of the World but one of my favourite things about this community is the diversity in opinions. Just because others have disliked this book does not mean I will. I mean, I probably will, but I'm going to try it anyway. It's another random pick from my husband and I normally end up loving what he chooses for me, so I'm excited to see on which side I fall. . I'm posting this late, whilst in work, because I spent all of yesterday evening watching RuPaul's Drag Race. I've become obsessed, and have luckily managed to avoid any and all spoilers so far! I started with season 4, and I had to watch the finale with my sister last night. It's taking over my life. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I hope you all have a great day. ๐Ÿ˜˜ . โ€ข day 3 of #grimdragon - we can't all like the same stuff all the time. . //#bookstagram #bookporn #book #bookworm #instabook #reading #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #igreads #booktag #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #sobookinggood #bookphotography #bookgo #thecabinattheendoftheworld #horror #horrornovel #horrorbooks//
