Happy dog day to the dogs. But the neighborhood bear family is about to wake up, and I see them probably more than my own dogs so...#ashevilleproblems #asheville #828#828eat #bears #blackbear #blueridgemountains #northcarolina #wildlife #mountains #wes#westernnorthcarolina #828 #WNC #westernnorthcarolina

Effecting over 30 million people, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis in the United states. For those who have it in their knees, knee replacement is often discussed. Fortunately, a new study shows that brisk walking may delay needing a knee replacement. For this study, researchers examined 1,854 participants who had knee osteoarthritis. During a five-year period, the OA patients wore accelerometers at least 4 days a week. The participants had their walking speeds examined. They were divided into non-walking, very light walking, light walking, or moderate to vigorous walking based on their steps per minute. The vigorous walking group was defined as having more than 100 steps per minute. When replacing non-walking with 5 minutes of walking, the moderate/vigorous walking group was found to be 16% less likely to need a knee replacement. The very light and light walking groups had no noticeable reduced risk of knee replacement. Researchers suggest that the increased physical activity helped with maintaining muscle condition and synovial fluid production. Both factors help support joint help and protect cartilage from damage. Basically, five minutes of brisk walking at least four days a week can help delay knee replacement. This is important as knee replacements usually last around 20 years while many cases of osteoarthritis begin at 50. This means some people might have to undergo the surgery more than once depending on how early they needed the first replacement. . . . . #mountairy #mayberry #surry #blueridge #blueridgemountains #pt #physicaltherapy #therapy #health #healthylifestyle #physicaltherapist #therapist #occupationaltherapy #ot #northcarolina #nc #virginia #va #stretch #movement #massagetherapy #muscle #injury #patient #surrycounty #triad #wsnc #winstonsalem #specialist #choiceptw
