A Harvest of our hops off the meandering bine (yes it’s called a bine not a vine). Hops are of the Cannabaceae family, the same family as hemp and cannabis. The plant is perennial and will die back over Autumn and make their way back over spring. These little cones are great for stress, anxiety digestion, your immune system and for skin and hair care. Historically hops have been used to assist women with menstrual issues and for women in menopause due to the high level of phytoestrogens contained. They have known to be effective in reducing the symptoms of PMS. Hops can be made into tea using the fresh cones, or you can use them dried. I’m experimenting with putting the cones in kombucha and tepache at the moment and will see how that turns out. (Will let you know). When dried the cones can be sewn into a herb pillow to assist sleep. They can also be made into a tincture. Hops are also good for healing minor cuts and wounds by making a poultice.
