I wish it was like this everyday Reposted from @bllaklabel - #TI teamed up with #PastorJamalBryant (New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta) to raise $120K to bail out 23 nonviolent offenders (16 men, 7 women) for Easter. They far exceeded their goal of raising $40K to their “Bail Out” program (per newsweek.com) After being released, the program will send them through an 8-week support program. They will be matched with a mentor and have weekly check-in (per BOTWC) - #regrann ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●🔎 ▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫🔎 #OrganizeorDie#TheDevilisALie#corporategreed#BlackExcellence#BlackKnowledge#BLACKOWNEDBUSINESSES#vesicapiscis#wewereKingsandQueens#africanhistory#moderndayslavery#pinealgland#blackpride#blackconscious#King#Alnansa#God#BlackFamily#blackisbeautiful#BlackPower#Melanin#BlackLivesMatter🔎

Mondays meet the #museumofbc team 👀: I'm Chao, a digital heritage specialist and overall history geek. . After starting a history blog in 2012, I realised that the history I was taught growing up had significant gaps, was impersonal and had no room for personal stories and memories. Since then, I have been doing various projects to document history/ culture through digital media and this journey has led me here. . Here at the museum, I focus on engagement, preservation and visualisation and currently run African Digital Heritage. I am excited to work on this project to document a history that is very important to many but known by so few. And to create a space where history can be appreciated truthfully and without bias. . Find out more about the team and the work we do via our website. Link in our handle 👆🏾✨

The djembe can produce a wide variety of sounds, making it a most versatile drum. The drum is very loud, allowing it to be heard clearly as a solo instrument over a large percussion ensemble. The Malinké people say that a skilled drummer is one who "can make the djembe talk", meaning that the player can tell an emotional story. (The Malinké never used the djembe as a signaling drum.) Traditionally, the djembe is played only by men, as are the dunun that always accompany the djembe. Conversely, other percussion instruments that are commonly played as part of an ensemble, such as the shekere (a hollowed-out gourd covered with a net of beads), karignan (a tubular bell), and kese kese (a woven basket rattle), are usually played by women. Even today, it is rare to see women play djembe or dunun in West Africa, and African women express astonishment when they do see a female djembe player. • • • Flaig, Vera (2010).
