They stayed in a caloric deficit on week days so they go overboard on the weekend as a mental reward. However, cheat days can easily destroy your progress...⠀ ➖⠀ Let’s say your maintenance calories are 2000. You ate 1500 calories on Monday/Thursday and 1600 on Tues/Wed/Friday. Basically your were in a caloric deficit every day of the week. Then on the weekend, you ended up in a caloric surplus with, let’s say, 3200 calories Saturday and 3000 calories Sunday. Which btw is very easy to do if you don't watch it.⠀ ➖⠀ Now do the math. You ate 14 000 calories in seven days, which comes down to 2000 a day. You'd have had the same results if you just ate 2000 calories each day. 2000 calories being your maintenance, you didn't lose any weight this week even though you ate less 5 days in a row. Just because you made it up to you on the weekend. ⠀ ➖⠀ Worst, many people tend to go in an even greater surplus on the weekend, so they actually end up gaining weight instead of losing it.⠀ ➖⠀ What you want to do is get out of this cycle by focusing on flexible eating and you won’t need cheat days. Make sure you eat around 80% of whole foods, but for the other 20% you can incorporate all kinds of foods into your diet.
