We are delighted to reveal one of our top lots for Phillips & Blackbird: SPORTS is the present Rolex “Submariner” Ref. 6538 with black lacquer “four liner” dial, big crown and big logo bracelet. Made in 1958, this incredibly rare and highly attractive diver’s watch is not only all original with the correct dial, bezel and winding crown; it is also wisely preserved in absolutely stunning condition. The watch is indisputably a grail-level “Big Crown” Submariner for connoisseurs, in terms of its quality, historical relevance, and fine aesthetic. As was previously announced, Phillips & Blackbird: SPORTS is the first watch auction of its kind in Asia, with Phillips partnering with @blackbirdwatchmanual and its founder @mr_tk Mak, marking the first ever watch auction in the world curated by an Asian collector. The watches of the sale, which are in excellent condition and all of which have notable provenance, will be sorted into 6 different categories - WIND, AIR, SNOW, TARMAC, LAWN and WATER. Taking place on 27 May at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong, the Evening Sale will feature 82 lots of exceptional sports watches. Select highlights are now available online. Link in bio.

Lot 1123 of the #HKWA8 - The Omega Speedmaster’s place in the Space Race is well-documented, particularly the reference 145.012-67 – it graced the wrists of astronauts on Apollo 11, Apollo 14, and Apollo-Soyuz. It was the last Speedmaster model to be fitted with the renowned caliber 321 and is set apart from its predecessors by its ‘SP’ (‘SP’ for “Spécial Poussoirs” or “special pushers”) that increased water resistance. Though it is not known why a selection of the reference 145.012-67 were fitted with an orange chronograph hand – legibility is one theory – it is estimated that less than fifty correct examples exist with this bold, colorful detail. In order to be truly called an "Ultraman", the watch must be examined in person by Omega and accompanied with a note on the archival extract. These watches typically fall within a certain serial number range - between 26’076’XXX and 26’079’XXX. The present lot, preserved in original and unpolished condition, is a superb example of this iconic model. Select highlight of The Hong Kong Watch Auction: EIGHT are now available online.

Lot 23 of the #GWA9 - The present outstanding early floating dial Daytona reference 16528 is a tribute to the man who helped shape Ayrton Senna’s career from the start as attested by the message engraved on the caseback: “A Angelo da Ayrton 1978”. Its recipient was Angelo Parrilla, a legend in Karting and the founder of DAP who “discovered” and brought Senna to Italy by establishing a relationship with the then 18-year-old that went far beyond the sporting association. Quite simply Parrilla was an early mentor for arguably the greatest Formula One driver of all time and this yellow gold Daytona symbolises the appreciation for the memories that kept Senna strong during his darkest days. Apart from all the emotion attached to this watch it is hard to overlook the features that make it stand out on its own. One could contrast the gold, yellow, with the colour that adorned Senna’s helmet during his lifetime. Furthermore, this R series 16528, the earliest iteration of Rolex’s first automatic gold chronograph Daytona, is fitted with the desirable and rare floating dial and Mark 1 bezel prized by collectors. The present watch is not only offered in superb condition but comes with a series of accessories making it a must have for any Formula One fan including a signed faceguard of Senna’s driving helmet. Lot 209 of the #GWA9 - The US Army Air Corps (1926-1941) adopted Type designations for many of their issued equipment watches such as the “Type A” specification. The Longines A-7 “Avigation” was designed for aircraft navigation, “Aerial Navigation”, with a dial set at an angle so the time could be read easily while piloting and a single button pusher incorporated into the crown that allowed the pilot to easily start, stop and reset the chronograph to zero. After the war and for a very short period of time, a small production in stainless steel was produced for the civilian market, as opposed to the chrome-plated military version. The present civilian A7 is presented in untouched and original condition. The case is unmolested and the gilt finished movement is superbly preserved. The black matt dial, printed with silver inscription proudly displays the signature of the prestigious Milan-based retailer Eberhard, making it the only known model A7 in steel with retailer signature. The watch is further completed by its original box signed Orologeria Eberhard Milano.
