A very special day today - with the State Memorial for those affected by the recent bush fires. Six pairs of boots were placed on a shrine, remembering the three NSW RFS volunteers and three American aircrew who died this season. Family of community members lit candles in memory of those killed. Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said - “25 lives have been taken by fire this bush fire season. “Each one of those is a story of grief, profound loss and great sadness – of lives cut short and of families being changed forever. “Nans and Pops, Mums and dads, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters – loved ones, colleagues and mates – all much loved and valued members of our community. “Each one, will remain a reminder of the terrible events of this bush fire season.” #nswrfs #nswfires

We wanted to say a big "thank you" to the incredible firefighters and community members who have done so much over the last few months. It's been a mammoth effort from firefighters from all agencies, across all states and territories, and from the US, Canada and NZ. And when we say a big thank you, we mean big. Thanks to a very kind donation of ad space from Silvercast, we've taken the message to a 70 foot high billboard in NYC! #ThankYouFiries #nswrfs #nswfires #australia #newyork #nyc #timessquare

Some of our firies got a once in a lifetime chance to be on stage with John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John as they performed the final song to close out the Fire Fight Australia concert. These volunteers represented everyone involved in protecting communities this season #nswrfs #nswfires

‪Have you seen our Volunteer firefighters in red tshirts enjoying the #FireFightAustralia concert this afternoon? Thanks to @FireFightAU and Fetch TV, some of our firies can let their hair down and rock away to some fantastic artists. They certainly deserve it. #nswrfs

Although we have seen substantial rain in some areas, firefighters continue to work on 24 bush and grass fires burning across the State. 2 fires remain uncontained, located in the Snowy Valley and Snowy Monaro areas. With more favourable weather, the main focus now for crews is to locate and extinguish any remaining hotspots and burning fuels to make sure they don't cross containment lines. A huge effort has gone in over past months to protect communities of #NSW. #nswrfs #nswfires

The good news just keeps rolling in! The Lindfield Park Road Fire, which has been burning in the Port Macquarie region for 210 days, has today been declared out. The fire burnt through 858 hectares and 400 of that being peat soils under the surface. The fire presented a number of challenges for firefighters including close proximity to the Port Macquarie Airport, high density housing in the vicinity and the nature of the vegetation types. Over 65 Mega litres of reclaimed water from the Port Macquarie – Hastings Council water treatment facility was transferred through a 3 km hose line into the wetland to rehydrate the area, and raise the water level. With over 260 mm of rain falling across the fire ground this past week and inspections using thermal imaging cameras we are now in a position to set the Lindfield Park Road fire to out. The 210 day operation to extinguish the Lindfield Park Road fire was made possible through the collaboration and support form Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, Port Macquarie- Hastings Council, NSW Health, NSW Fire & Rescue and NSW Rural Fire Service.
