#FootballFever: 5/30 #Madeira, the birthplace of Portuguese and Real Madrid footballer #CristianoRonaldo, is in the middle of a rare conundrum. The Portuguese isle with ambling hikes, fine (Madeira) wine, and lava pools the colour of night, was until recently home to a rather misshapen bust of its famous native son. The bust, unveiled in 2017 to a torrent of criticism, was replaced with one bearing a higher resemblance to the forward. But Madeirans have since launched a petition to bring back the original, the work of a local artist. No matter which version of Ronaldo you see on your visit, the serene island deserves a place on your bucket list. #WorldCup #PORMAR #TravelGoals Swipe to see a photo of the bust. #FootballFever: 4/30 Medellin, the capital of Colombia's craggy Antioquia province, may not rank high on the average football enthusiast's travel itinerary, but it is where one would turn to pay homage to late Colombian defender Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga, gunned down for scoring an own-goal against the United States in the 1994 #WorldCup. The otherwise comely 'City of eternal spring' thus bears witness to one of the saddest moments in the history of football, and #Colombia. What stands beyond the pain, however, is the unbroken spirit of the city and the country, which held close the young star—in murals, statues and memories—while overcoming the drug-fuelled unrest of the 90s. Isn't that a big win? #COLJPN #TravelGoals Photo by: Raul Arboleda/AFP/Getty Images

Football Fever: 3/30 Before its closure in 2012, the Råsunda Stadium in #Stockholm, Sweden, stood witness to a much-referenced defining match in the history of World Cup. It was here that Edson Arantes do Nascimento, adored and worshiped by millions as Pelé, swung his spectacular hat-trick against France as a 17-year-old #WorldCup debutante in 1958. Although the stadium was subsequently replaced with a new one, the waterside city, home to suave architecture and viking legends, continues to be associated with those glory moments of #football at its finest. #WorldCup2018 #FootballLife #Sweden #TravelGoals #SWEKOR Photo by: fotoVoyager/iStock Unreleased/Getty Images
