KARGIL TO KOHIMA (#K2K) ULTRA MARATHON- “#GLORYRUN” CULMINATES AT KOHIMA - A unique Ultra Marathon was undertaken by air warriors of the Indian Air Force from the Kargil War Memorial, Drass (J&K) on 21 Sep 2019, to the Kohima War Cemetery, Kohima (Nagaland) under the banner “Kargil to Kohima (K2K) Glory Run”. The event was undertaken by the Indian Air Force as a part of the ongoing celebrations to commemorate the completion of 20 glorious years of victory during the Kargil War. During the span of 45 days, the air warriors, who were part of the team ran a distance of more than 4500 km through the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam and Nagaland. The Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri RN Ravi was the chief guest for the ceremony. The team was received by Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM, VSM, AOC-in-C Eastern Air Command. As a part of the expedition, the marathon team paid tribute to all the brave hearts who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil war. The air warriors also interacted with students of schools and colleges en-route to promote awareness for Pedestrian Safety, Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat. The team comprising 25 Air Warriors was led by Squadron Leader Suresh Razdan. The air warriors displayed the highest levels of endurance will power and teamwork under extreme climatic conditions to safely achieve the desired goal.

#Congratulations to Sgt Deepak Kumar. The performance of IAF sportsmen in the recent past has been praiseworthy. IAF Shooters are performing exceedingly well not only at the National arena but also at International levels and bringing accolades for the country. Sgt Deepak Kumar of the IAF Shooting team represented the country in the 14th Asian Shooting championship at Doha, Qatar. The air-warrior made the country proud by winning a Bronze medal in 10 Mtr Air Rifle individual event and secured a place in Olympics 2020. Sgt Deepak Kumar was recruited into the IAF during sportsman direct selection on 02 Apr 2008. He is an accomplished shooter of the country and has won accolades for the country on many occasions. Significant achievements of the air warrior are enumerated below:- (a)2016- Became a member of the Indian team. (b)2018- Commonwealth Games qualification. (c)2018- Asian Games Individual Silver medal. (d)2018-Individual 6th position in World championship. (e)2019- Munich World Cup Silver in Mixed event. (f) 2019-Rio World Cup Gold in Mixed event. (g) 2019- Asian Shooting championship Doha individual Bronze Medal & secured a berth in Olympics 2020. It is prudent to mention that 04 air-warriors are representing the country in the 14th Asian championship in progress at Doha and aiming to secure a position for Olympics 2020.

#JMT19 - Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) contingent arrived at AF Station Kaliakunda for Joint Military Training (#JMT19) on 01 Nov 19. Over the next three weeks, IAF & RSAF will undertake joint flying training. The exercise between the two friendly forces will further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries & enhance the operational capability of both Air Forces. @thersaf

Air Marshal Amit Tiwari, has taken over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SAC, today. An impressive guard of honour presented to Air Marshal Tiwari on taking over the Command. An alumnus of the NDA, the Air Marshal was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF in June 1982.

Air Marshal B Suresh took over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command on 01 November 2019. The Air Marshal reviewed a ceremonial Guard of Honour and thereafter outlined his vision for the Western Air Command in consonance with the objectives of the IAF and the nation at large. The Air Marshal is a highly decorated officer having been awarded the Presidential awards of Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2005 and Vayu Sena Medal in 2001. He was appointed as the Aide de Camp to the Hon'ble President of India on 01 Feb 2019. The Air Marshal has donned a military uniform for 47 years; having joined the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun in 1972. An alumnus of the NDA, he was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on 13 December 1980. He is a 'Sword of Honour' awardee from the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment, a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and a post-graduate from Cranfield University, Shrivenham, United Kingdom. He is a highly experienced fighter pilot and has flown almost all fighter aircraft and helicopters of the IAF. He takes charge of this crucial Air Command at a very critical time. He brings a wealth of operational experience to the table in his new assignment. He is a ‘Jam Sataji Sword of Honour' awardee from the prestigious 'Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment' (TACDE) - IAF's premier institution that develops comprehensive offensive/defensive combat tactics to be adopted by all components of airpower in war. He has done three tenures at TACDE with the last being as the Commandant of the Establishment during which time, the 'Beyond Visual Range' Air-to-Air Missile tactics were developed. He is widely acclaimed as a strategist and tactician of repute within Air Force circles and as the Exercise Director, he is credited with having been the mastermind behind IAF's superlative performance during Exercise Cope India 2004 - the first international bilateral exercise with the United States Air Force held after a gap of nearly 40 years.

Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command hung his uniform after an illustrious career spanning over 38 years on 31 Oct 2019. The Air Marshal has been an Experimental Test Pilot and has flown about 42 types of aircraft. He has the distinction of having flown over 2300 hrs on the Mirage-2000 in the IAF, and a total of 5100 hours of flying experience. For his prominent role in the Kargil Operations, Air Marshal Nambiar was awarded Vayu Sena Medal for Gallantry by the Hon'ble President of India and a Bar to the Vayu Sena Medal for flight testing the Light Combat Aircraft in 2002. In recognition of his distinguished and dedicated service, he was conferred Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2015, Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019 and appointed as an Honorary ADC to the Hon'ble President of India. During his tenure as the AOC-in-C Western Air Command 'Chinook' helicopters as well as the potent 'Apache' attack helicopters were inducted enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

AIR MARSHAL MANAVENDRA SINGH AVSM VrC VSM DIRECTOR GENERAL INSPECTION & SAFETY, AIR HEADQUARTERS RK PURAM - Air Marshal Manavendra Singh, AVSM VrC VSM, took over as Director General Inspection and Safety, Air Headquarters RK Puram on 01 Nov 2019. The Air Marshal was commissioned in the flying branch of Indian Air Force on 29 Dec 1982 as a Helicopter pilot. In a distinguished career spanning nearly thirty-seven years, the Air Officer has flown a wide variety of helicopters and trainer aircraft. He has over 6600 hours of flying in various challenging sectors like the Siachen, the Northeast, Uttarakhand, the Western desert and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor with vast instructional experience. During his career, the Air Officer has held numerous important appointments. He was Commanding Officer of an Operational Helicopter Unit and later on became Station Commander of a frontline Helicopter Base. He was Asst Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Joint Operations) at HQ Integrated Defence Staff, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration at HQ Eastern Air Command and Senior Air and Administration Staff Officer at HQ Maintenance Command. Prior to his present appointment, he was Senior Air Staff Officer, Southern Air Command. He is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College Wellington, and Army War College, Mhow. He is the recipient of Presidential Awards of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vir Chakra and Vishisht Seva Medal. He is married to Mrs Ambika Singh and they are blessed with two sons.
