We've got that Friday Feeling and you know we love kicking off the weekend by sharing the stories of our amazing teammates. . . . Let's put our hands together for this week's Runner Spotlight: Mark Villinski! . . Mark is from the great state of Maine and is taking on the 2019 @chimarathon AGAIN with Team DetermiNation after running with us last year! Read Mark's story below: . Why are you running with ACS? / Who are you running for? "My parents have had cancer seven times in their lifetimes. Unfortunately I lost my Dad to lung cancer six years ago so they beat this awful disease 6 out of 7 times. The year after he passed I ran the Vermont City Marathon as a member of Fred’s Team raising money for the Sloan Kettering in NYC. I did that for a few years and then my daughter started going to college at IIT on the south side and I learned that the course went right through her campus. It was an easy decision for me to join the ACS team for Chicago last year and run in honor of my parent’s and a dear family friend, Tony, who was battling cancer at that time. It was an incredible experience and I am excited to be running with ACS again in 2019." . How long have you been running? "I have been running 1 to 2 marathons a year for the past seven years. Before that I had run 6 or seven and then stopped running for several years." . What is your favorite place to run? "Most of my favorites places to run usually near some body of water!" . What is your favorite race? "Of the 16 marathons I have run Chicago last year was far and away the best experience. The crowd support was incredible the entire course and the camaraderie of the runners was very special. It reminded me of the saying “If you want to see the spirit of humanity run a marathon!” It was in full effect that day and I am sure it will be again this year." . Thank you for sharing your story, Mark! We can't wait to welcome you back to Chicago for another awesome 26.2 miles!
