Shooting all of my favorite daffodils tonight by color grouping, trying to catch their fleeting beauty before they are gone for another year. I think these beauties are one of the most under appreciated spring flowers so I have made it my personal mission to help spread their magic far and wide! 💫 #ayearinflowers #week16flowers

Spring flowers are pouring in from the field and unheated hoop houses right now. After so many months of dreary weather and no flowers, I’m so happy that spring has finally arrived in our corner of the world! #ayearinflowers #week16flowers

Until recently, I had always turned my nose up at dried flowers because they reminded me of tacky, dated flower books from the late 80’s. It wasn’t until this past year that I actually became a fan. I can’t believe it took me so long to discover their benefits! One of the best parts about drying flowers is that you can preserve the abundance from your garden to be enjoyed later in the year when nothing is blooming. This winter as we were finishing up A Year in Flowers (our flower arranging book that comes out Feb 2020) we found ourselves scraping for material to round out the winter bouquets. Dried flowers totally saved the day. Over on the blog (link in profile) you'll find a detailed, photo filled post all about dried flowers including what varieties are most suitable for growing/drying, plus some very inspiring creations using only dried material. Swipe left to see a sample. Big thanks to @thelittlebanana for sharing photos of her beautiful wreaths for this story! I am now hooked and am devoting a big section of our field to flowers and ingredients just for drying. Once you read this post I think you'll be in the same boat. The flowers I'm holding in the first photo (taken last summer) are all strawflowers, one of my favorites to dry. #growfloret

Harvesting so many spring flowers with the crew today. I can’t believe we’ll be starting to plant into the field next week. Time is flying! #growfloret #ayearinflowers #week16flowers

I had grand plans of making a beautiful pastel bouquet for my #ayearinflowers post this week, but after a weekend full of planning and a super busy start to the week, I only got as far as harvesting these beautiful pastel anemones. My hope is to make an actual arrangement each week for this project, but @copterchris reminded me yesterday that done is better than perfect. So, here's what's blooming in my hoop house in Skagit Valley Washington this week. The goal of this community-driven project is to highlight what's blooming in gardens across the globe each week. Here’s how you can participate: 1) Take a photo of flowers that are in season in your area, whether it's a handful of flowers from your yard or garden or a bouquet that you made using seasonal blooms. 2) Post your photo here on Instagram and tag it with #AYe#AYearInFlowers 3) In the caption, be sure to share what flowers are in the picture along with where you're located. Please also note the week of the year. For a peek at my previous post and a selection of community submissions, click on the link in my bio. #AYearInFlowers #Week16Flowers

Picking cheerful anemones in the greenhouse today. Monday’s are always my least favorite day of the week. So many meetings, decisions, new problems to solve.... always feels like I’m starting at zero. These beauties brighten an otherwise tough start to another big week here on the farm. #ayearinflowers #growfloret #week16flowers

Tulip ‘Copper Image’ about to go off! These guys seem best picked more mature, otherwise they don’t fully open. At least that’s been my experience. We’re working on some fun creative projects later this week and these beauties will definitely be involved. #ayearinflowers #week15flowers #growfloret

Timmy, my constant companion. I was out in the field last night until dark, taking growing photos of as many spring flowers as I could manage. This is one of our anemone houses. She stayed by my side the entire time. When we first started feeding her (she was a stray) we couldn’t get close enough to touch her and since orange female cats are rare, we assumed she was a boy. We called her Timmy until realizing our mistake but after trying out a dozen new names, nothing stuck. So Timmy (the girl cat) it is! #ayearinflowers #week15flowers
