A couple months ago I tried to give the front elevation of my home a little #makeover because it was looking old & outdated. Since I work in the construction and design industry I thought “I got this “ and it was an easy fix ... ordered a new front door 🚪, a new garage door , and had the entire house repainted thinking it would do the trick and completely #transform the look .... but it didn’t 🤔🤨. It still looks wrong, a little messy or incomplete and I came to the conclusion that it all has to do with landscaping. We already tore out almost all of the plants and planted new ones ourselves and have a lawn service that keeps everything trimmed but it needs more. I got to thinking this morning and realized it was time to seek the help of a professional in the field of landscape architecture & design. As much as I thought I could do it on my own, both creatively & physically , I realized that my knowledge or vision is just too limited in that field and it was time to admit I needed help from an expert, so I looked into companies online and submitted a request for a design. Yep it’s going to cost me more than I wanted to spend but I think it’s time and in the end , I know it will be well worth it. . So, why am I talking about my silly house 🏡 dilemma? 😉 Because I get a LOT of messages and hear from so many people that are frustrated in their own fitness journey and guess what ? 99.99% of those people are trying to do this completely on their own! We may think we know it all or are perfectly capable of reaching our goals on our own but there comes a time when we may have to admit we need help. It may be in just one aspect of our journey (like #diet for most people ), and we need to realize that we’re worth making ourselves a priority. I encourage anyone that’s stuck or frustrated to research the experts out there and go for it. It’s an investment strategy that will return the desired outcome (gains or loss lol)if you follow the rules, have patience and don’t sell out prematurely. 😉. . Just a little analogical story telling (if that’s even a term 🤪) and #motivation on this fabulous Monday. 😘💪 Coach: @aliciagowans_wbffpro

My Instagram game might be weak atm but my GOAL game is still going STRONG 💪!! . Hey #fitfam I’m still here working hard In the gym & following my #diet, just slacking on social media😳!! . Couple random things to share: . 👑coach @aliciagowans_wbffpro suggested #cryotherapy a few weeks ago to try to help my sleep quality as well as a little physical therapy after a possible minor tear In my shoulder . I finally went to my first session and loved it and plan to go at least twice a month. What is it and what are the benefits you ask ? It’s much like taking an ice bath only you’re not immersing yourself in freezing cold water so it’s not so uncomfortable.. it’s an open air chamber that circulates liquid nitrogen vapor at Temps down to -120 degrees to -160 🥶. During the 3 minute session the body redirects blood from superficial vessels and capillaries in the skin towards deeper structures. During this the blood is enriched then recirculated to the rest of the cells in the body. This leads to rejuvenation , pain reduction, inflammation reduction , improved detoxification, cellular damage repair and increased circulation which leads to increased metabolism 😉. I felt kinda revived and “clear” after my session and even though it was only one time , I did feel some relief in my forearm and elbow where I’m battling a little tendinitis. The guy at the spa also told me you end up burning more calories after a session so that’s just a great added bonus! And I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not, but my sleep score on my @fitbit app has improved which means I’ve had better and longer sleep quality this past week 🙌🎉! . . The other thing I want to share is that I’m using a coffee scrub in the shower and really loving what it’s doing for my skin. I use to think it was just for exfoliating dead skin cells but the caffeine actually stimulates through the skin and improves blood circulation through your veins, which in turn helps smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of #cellulite . 🙌🎉 You can make your own homemade coffee scrub or be lazy like me and buy it all ready to go lol. . Ok that’s it, you’re welcome 😉😘! Have a great day !

My grandmother told me I had a “bubble butt “ when I was younger . I think I might be getting it back ... at least when I stand like this 🤪🤣 . It was #glutes and #hamstrings in the gym this morning and I love this workout 🏋🏻‍♀️!💪. I felt that with every exercise I was able to focus on the mind to muscle connection and really feel it where it counts . Don’t just go through the motions and rush to finish a set , or you’re practically wasting your time. Take your time and FEEL it .😉 . And the second pic cracks me up 🤣, not just because of the goofy smile 😁 but because it was right after I snapped the pic that I realized there were surveillance cameras in all four corners of that room so I don’t think my little #selfie session was as secret as I thought it was lol 😝.🤷🏻‍♀️ . Sharing today’s workout so swipe to the last two photos , it’s a good one ! And note : this workout is from my coach @aliciagowans_wbffpro ‘s app so it’s for her clients , but you can always become one !! . Another scatter brained random post from me , hope you have an awesome day #fitfam!! 😘😘 Love, Carrie 💋 , . . #fitover50 #fitover40 #weightlifting #fitnessjourney #ageisjustanumber #fitatanyage #youcandoit #neversurrender #noexcuses

I created an album/file on #instagram when i started this #fit#fitjourney over 2 1/2 years ago and I called it “Goals” . The photo on the left is the first picture I saved to it . I have no idea who this girl is (this is the original pic, no face ) but I remember that I loved the look .... her stomach, arms, shorts , and pose. She just looked like she was in good shape , #fit , strong and athletic and that’s what I wanted to get back . Don’t mistake this as “comparing” as it was just an incentive and motivation for me to work on something I felt I could achieve. Of course we don’t have the same bodies (evident by my short torso ) and I’m guessing I’m old enough to be her mother but I do feel pretty darn good for coming this close so far!! 😁 We can achieve what we believe if we work for it . 💪 . Does anyone else save photos in a #goals album just to give them that little push every now and then? 🙋🏻‍♀️. I still haven’t come close to my glutes goals but I’m definitely working on it and hope to post that side by side photo one day 🤞. . And because I like to keep it real and make fun of myself , swipe (sound on 🎶) to see what I go through to try to get one still shot lol 😝, the dancing loosens me up and yes I know ... I can’t #floss correctly 🤪, this is the first time I actually attempted it . Have a great day everyone and keep that focus on your goals !! I crushed my shoulder workout this morning and hope you slayed too ! 💪🎉✌️ . . #fitover50 #fitover40 #motivation #fitnessmotivation

#flashbackfriday So this isn’t a “hey look at me 23 years later .... I look the same and haven’t aged a bit” post lol . . It’s a post to discuss the differences in getting to what was/is my best condition at each of these times ....and the difference is ..... there is NONE . . It took a LOT of hard work back then & it takes a LOT of hard work now... in the gym and in the kitchen. Sacrifices were made,and-self control & willpower were mandatory at each time. Now I’m not saying I look(ed) incredible or perfect in either Photo but for me, & what I have to work with, both are pretty f’kn good 😉. . I had obstacles and setbacks at each age ... shin splints , pulled muscles, achy joints, tendinitis , blisters ... whatever. I dealt with menstruation back then & I’ve dealt with menopause now, neither terrible but nonetheless they both presented challenges whether it was period cramps , mild hot flashes , poor sleep quality ,moodiness , fatigue, etc. I had outside distractions back then like I do now ..... relationships, family, work, yada yada yada . Pretty much the same story , just different times, ya know? And as you can see , I didn’t have anymore muscle back then compared to today really so I don’t think it’s necessarily any harder to put on muscle now . I actually lift the same weight now too so obviously being 50 years old has no bearing on my capability to improve strength . . I hear SO many people say (and I’m guilty of sometimes thinking it too) that it’s harder at an older age but I really don’t think it is. I have the same limits , same advantages , same disadvantages, same weaknesses and same strengths . I know I’m not able to compete or compare with the best but that wasn’t /isn’t my goal . My goal is to be MY best and compete with myself and it’s no different or harder today than it was 23 years ago. . . So not sure if I was able to get my point across very well but the message is DON’T USE AGE AS AN EXCUSE. I hear it all the time & am also guilty of saying it myself ... “the older we get the harder it is “... BULLSHIT. Practice and consistency pay off the same way now that it did when we were kids. Mic 🎤 drop, out of space!

Random sh*t from me 🤩 . 🏡 I took on a side job to help a client with space planning , furnishing and decorating the custom home that we’re building so I’m burning the candle at both ends lately, with little to no spare time. . 🏋️‍♂️ Still getting my workouts in and doing one every now and then at home because my gym is being remodeled and things are a little out of sorts there. Thankfully we have a great home gym supply so I don’t miss a beat 💪. . 🚶🏻‍♀️I’ve been getting my 10k steps in every day until yesterday due to the side job but I’ll be sure to makeup for the 5,000 step deficit before the end of the week 😉 (gotta get that 70k!) . 🥗 Diet remains on point with 2300 cals M-F and 2500 cals S & S but suddenly I’m feeling extra hungry and losing weight/body fat so I think I recently must have sparked my metabolism but will be checking in with Coach @aliciagowans_wbffpro tomorrow and find out what’s going on 😳. How am I cutting w/out cutting😂 . 🤯 Speaking of diet , my mind was blown last night after reading a post from @whitneyjohns sharing a #mealprephack whereas she said to go to Whole Foods and load up on individual containers of fresh items from the salad bar. WTH , how come I never thought of that ?! (SWIPE for her list ) I still get meal delivery but it doesn’t cover every single meal so this will be great ! Going to Whole Foods this wkend 😃 . 💅🏻 Only 3 out of 10 toenails have nail polish left on them so I’m in dire need of a pedicure and wearing close toed shoes 👠 every day lol. . 📦 Got a @stitchfix box the other day and love every single piece . Swipe for today’s work blouse and DM me or comment if you want a code for a discount off your first box. 😉 . 🌪My floors haven’t been vacuumed in over two weeks 😱 . 😴 Sleep is still my biggest challenge and the hardest thing for me to conquer in this whole journey ! 🥺 . 💉Had bloodwork done and it’s confirmed that I’m post menopausal. The doc said I don’t seem to need any scripts and that I’m one of the lucky ones because #menopause was nothing to me.🤷🏻‍♀️ (Sorry, not trying to make anyone mad ) . That’s about it , how’s your week going #fitfam? 👂

WHAT am I Doing and WHY am I doing it ? . I think by now it’s safe to say that my account teeters on the line between the casual #fit#fitnesslifestyle and the competitive world of fitness. Although I haven’t made the decision or commitment to compete yet , I sure am following a training and dieting plan almost like that of a competitor (in an “off-season “ growth phase at the moment ) where you get to see my “checkin photos “ (cover pic is Monday’s checkin) and silly posing attempts in a bikini 👙 and high heels 👠 😳. . When I started this account my only goal was to make it through 12 weeks of the #bbg program and post a noticeable #transformation photo. Back then I figured once I got there it would just be a matter of maintaining but something happened along the way 🙌. With the physical changes that I felt and saw , also came mental growth whereas I began to recognize certain feelings of purpose and determination so similar to the feelings I had over 20 years ago when I did compete. Over the last two years, confidence in my ability went from “I’ll never look like that again” to “I’m going to beat that girl” (myself 😉) and it’s really exciting ! So just for the heck of it , I’m sharing some photos of the 27 year old version of myself that I’m trying to conquer and a few favorites of me and my closest friends from the competition days ❤️. Such amazing experiences and something I’d recommend anyone try, at any age! . Anyway, that’s my current WHAT and WHY. I’m on a mission to be my best version of me to date , at the ripe ole age of 50!.💪🙌🎉. #itspossible . #fitatanyage #fitover50 #bestversionofme #fitnesscompetitor ? 🤷🏻‍♀️ #progress #bodytransformation #wegotthis #believeinyourself #anythingispossible #50isthenew30 #ageisjustanumber #fitmom #fitmama #fitspo #workinghard #fitnesslifestyle

☀️The Power of Movement . As you may know by now ,getting 10k steps every single day is part of my training requirement. The first time I heard about this and tracking steps on a #fitbit I actually thought it sounded kinda silly tbh. I wondered what good that would really do , I mean it’s simply just walking 🚶🏻‍♀️🤔 . Well let me tell ya, now I get it !! “Completing an extra 10,000 steps per day typically burns about 2,000 to 3,500 extra calories each week. One pound of body fat equals 3,500 calories, so depending on your weight and workout intensity , you could lose about one pound per week simply by completing an extra 10k steps each day .” ~ Excerpt from online article . And with that, a couple things to share; . My daughter started putting on a little weight by the end of her senior year, left for college last year & continued to add pounds . When she came home for the summer she decided she wanted to do something about it and get back to her ideal weight, so I got her a summer membership at the gym & she worked out with me about 4 or 5 days/week AND we walked every single day for 30-45 minutes . She only tweaked her diet a little by making better choices I’d say 80% of the time . In 3 months she dropped ALL the weight she had gained over the past year & she now looks and feels great ! I really believe the walking played an enormous role in that success. Swipe to see her little #transformation (she’s going to kill me 😳) . 2nd story and I’ll condense it: I know these two guys. Neither has ever worked out and neither eats healthy . 30 years ago they were both at their ideal weight . One of them has worked a desk job all these years while the other one is on his feet all day, moving . The desk job dude is greatly overweight now, the other guy looks the same as he did 30 yrs ago. I think the difference between them now is totally due to their daily lifestyles and the difference in simple movement 😉 . So, due to limited space , I hope you read deeper into the above and never underestimate the power of MOVING. Get out there and walk, today is a great day to ⭐️ t if you don’t do it already . .
