Confirmation bias is one of the most prevalent biases in daily life. Rather than seeking the truth of a situation, this bias instead guides us to conclusions that we already lean towards.⠀
Every perception has a component that can be manipulated to suit whatever outlook it is you already believe in. It’s worth asking yourself if there’s a good objective reason for your belief.
Do you feel the ghost of human decency? She’s buried beneath veils of ignorance, scratching to be set free.
I cried when I heard about the latest shooting in America. I asked myself how this could happen again. Again and again! Why?
Life is so precious. All life is so precious. How can someone get off on taking the life of another?
I believe it is when we lose our connection to our shared humanity. When we’re unable to see the “me” in “you.” When it becomes “you” Vs “me” instead of us, as one human family. When we treat each other cruelly, without love and respect, because we no longer care about our actions. This for me is the ghost of human decency.
How do we conquer our ignorance? By learning about each other. By searching to understand our differences without criticism or judgment. By making space in our hearts for unconditional love, that’s how.
I was blown away by something that a client shared with me this week: She used to relate to self-love as self-indulgence, and now she sees self-love as a form of self-respect.⠀
What I notice is that this seems to be a common pattern with people: They tend to relate to self-love as self-indulgence, as if loving themselves means they actually deserve to indulge.⠀
