Four hours of spokeshave work in 24 seconds. At the end, the shape of a canoe finally emerges! When fairing a canoe I always leave my left hand un-gloved because I’m constantly checking for ridges and high spots to smooth out. 🛶
There are so many things to keep in mind when working with Wenge wood...it can really dull your tools, it naturally splinters ridiculously easily, and then there’s the fact that breathing in Wenge dust can be toxic. Those facts aside, and a good respirator, it’s such a pretty piece of wood!

Anyone have any favored finishes with the burnt Wood (aka. Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi)? I'm using a mix between Arm-a-seal and minwax poly.
