I remember the day I told my 5th graders about #TamirRice. The room was completely silent as I described the things that happened to a little black boy their age. 12-year-old Tamir was playing in the park by himself with a toy gun (in an open-carry state), when suddenly he was executed in less than 2 seconds by law enforcement officers. Alive. Joyful. Full of hopes and dreams. Then, DEAD. A perfectly innocent life snatched away from this world. My 9 and 10-year-olds then sat in awe as I went on to tell them that Tamir’s executioners were not found guilty of their crimes, and now walk free, while Tamir is gone from this earth forever. I hope that reality sits with them for the rest of the lives; not hanging over them as a cloud of darkness. But rather, as a pressing motivation to fight for justice everywhere. My little Black boys and girls have every right to live lives full of meaning. They have every right to an education and to pursue opportunities in front of them. And, they have every right to simply BE. I hope they say and live out #BlackLivesMatter until the day they die, and I will be right behind them championing their efforts for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We love you and miss you, Tamir. June 25, 2002 – November 23, 2014 ❤ #WeRemember

Anne Frank (1929–1944) was born in Frankfurt. The roots of her old-established family can be traced back to the 16th century. When the Nazis came into power in 1933 Anne Frank’s father took his family to Amsterdam, where Anne wrote her world-famous diary. In 2012 the Anne Frank Fund Basel and its president Buddy Elias consigned to the Jewish Museum Frankfurt the estate (paintings, photographs, memorabilia and furniture) of the family of Anne Frank and established the Family Frank Centre. These objects will form a significant part of our new permanent exhibition that opens in 2019. This colorized portrait shows Alice Betty Frank (née Stern, 1865 – 1953), Anne Frank’s grandmother as a two-year-old child. . @juedischesmuseumffm

As a UND student, Dru Sjodin’s warm and vibrant personality showed itself through her creativity and campus involvement. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in visual art while active in The Clothesline Project and other campus activities that promoted women’s safety and violence prevention. Dru was also a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. 14 years ago today, UND student Dru Sjodin was abducted from Grand Forks; her loved ones laid her to rest five months later. During this difficult time, The Barry Foundation approached the UND Foundation wishing to create the Dru Sjodin Memorial Scholarship, celebrating Dru's life and vibrant spirit by turning grief into triumph and continuing her legacy of involvement. To date, 13 students have benefited from this act of generosity, living out Dru's legacy through this scholarship. #WeRemember #UNDthanks

This charcoal drawing (“A Crowd of People Under the Whip”, 1942–1945) by German-Jewish expressionist Ludwig Meidner is part of a cycle which the artist created in England during his time in exile. The atrocities in the countries occupied by Germany on the continent were known in Britain since at least 1942. In around 50 pictures Meidner addresses the systematic murder of Jews committed in the course of what the Nazis referred to as the "final solution to the Jewish question". . @juedischesmuseumffm

In Amsterdam the Monument to the Jewish Resistance is located in the Jewish quarter. The inscription on the monument reads from the book of Jeremiah. “I wish that my eyes were fountains of tears, so I could cry day and night for my people who were killed.” Honoring those who fought in the resistance against evil and intolerance.
