I love how my fellow coach Emily explains what we do! She says "By now I think you guys have realized that I don't "sell" a diet. I teach proper nutrition, guide my clients in learning and implementing life long changes so that they can finally ditch the yo-yo diets, long hours at the gym with little to no change and that funk of just not feeling their best. Chris is a perfect example of how changing those old habits helped him gain much more then the weight he lost." This is what he has to say: "Iโ€™ve always been active and in great shape since I was 17. Though after my daughter was born, having 2 jobs, and a busy schedule, I slowly began to lose my grip on health and I got to be my heaviest at 245! I developed unhealthy food addictions, like celebrating AND consoling myself with a Hershey bar and a beer. I would even hide M&Mโ€™s from my wife, stashing them in the glove compartment. I was tired, unmotivated, and sick almost every other month. I couldnโ€™t keep up with my daughter, I was depressed, and was just not myself. I had tried everything, you name it... beachbody, body for life, hydroxycut, working out and eating rightโ€ฆeverything, but I could not do all of that, work 2 jobs, spend time with my family, and handle all that life throws at me. It was simply too much to tackle all at once. It wasnโ€™t until I began to solely focus on my nutrition, changing the way I thought about nutrition in the past, that I was able to make lasting healthy changes. Now Iโ€™m in the best shape of my life at 175 with 10-12 lbs of muscle mass and I feel amazing! I can keep up with my family and kids, and at the ripe age of 40, I outran a college freshman football player in a game of backyard football. I sleep so deep and Iโ€™m fully rested when I wake up at 6:00am. Iโ€™m happier than Iโ€™ve been in a long time, and I just feel SO good!" It says that it contains 200 calories per serving. A box of pop tarts contains 12 pop tarts, and letโ€™s be honest, you probably wonโ€™t eat only one. It would be logical that one serving contains at least 3-4 pop tarts, but label actually refers to only one pop tart. So, if you believe that a serving is, letโ€™s say 3 pop tarts, youโ€™ll actually end up eating 600 calories and counting it as 200. ๐Ÿ‘Œ โ €โ € So, make sure not to make this mistake when counting. Iโ€™ve been categorized as overweight since I was 12. I developed fast and by grade 8 was at full height and chest size, and in the body that I would battle against for years. I did my first diet at the age of 15. I completely deprived myself and it worked. I lost weight. So I went back to normal life. Iโ€™d gained weight again, so then I went on another diet. Tried DVDs, those electric ab things, every quick fix I could find. I finally found success with weight watchers at age 19. But I was newly married, single income, and while the program did help me - I just couldnโ€™t swing it. Then I got pregnant with Maya. Then Jemma. Then Boden. And I, was 225lbs. Again I tried dieting, I ran for like a week once, I did a support system with my neighbor, always just kinda bouncing around seeking that magic solution. Iโ€™d become so used to the yo-yo and the failure that it most definitely seemed as though this is just what I was meant for. Until that day, until that picture was posted. That snap moment. That decision to go all out for once. My last shot effort. I was going to change my life, change my body. I was going to do it at home, no money required, and with three young kids watching. We fail ourselves when we stop trying, when we give up. Itโ€™s that glimmer of hope at the end of the rope that says โ€œone more timeโ€. I never did find that quick fix. That magic answer. I wish I could bottle that feeling in that snap moment of decision, because thatโ€™s what it took. A decision. A last ditch effort (or what I felt like it was). I felt worth it. For once. To try. To free who I felt I was on the inside. To break away from the strongholds of food addiction. To stop self-shaming the fact that I didnโ€™t know what I was doing. You figure it out. You do what you know how. You just do. Be patient. It can be easy to see transformation photos and want that quick success. But thereโ€™s often years between, failures you didnโ€™t witness, stumbles that arenโ€™t highlighted, thoughts that arenโ€™t spoken. Within yourself you can truly begin a new day with a fresh mindset and healthy conversation that stops seeking the quick and easy and commits to the lifelong end rewarding instead. #saygetfit

But I was always just cutting my food down and then putting more weight back on once I started to eat normal and binge eat again. Last year I decided to take it more seriously after being motivated by others posts on instagram. I started doing weight lifting at the gym and eating healthier. I became obsessed with losing weight and I ate only around 1200 cals/day. I lost 100 lbs in a year by starving myself and doing hours of cardio. Then one day when I had to carry a couple of boxes to a friend's place I passed out from the effort. This freaked me out and it made me realize that what I was doing was not healthy, so I started eating more, reduce cardio and focus more on lifting. After a while I became stronger and I fell in love with powerlifting. Now it's no longer about being skinny, it's about being strong, enjoying all foods in moderation and being happy and comfortable with who I am. Breakfast of champions, followed by oats & a protein shake (cyclone), before a good long Saturday workout. Hate it or love it, I enjoy whole foods way more than junk now. Although the thought of last nightโ€™s Chinese was great, I only ate 3/4 of it before I felt sick knowing what crap Iโ€™m putting in my body (you are what you eat). Its not just a diet, itโ€™s a lifestyle change.
