100% Sangiovese. Dark red cherry. On the nose there is ripe red fruit (cherries & cassis) earthy background. Friendly entry, cherries & earthy notes with spicy finish (fresh oregano), acidity on the sides. Fresh & present in the mouth. #sangiovese #italy #wine #vin#vin> #vin #red #rouge #tinto #vino #toscana

Nothing monstrous--just a classic claret. Thin and polished with decent sed, well-fruited and a gorgeous floral nose. Round and supple and showing just a perfect amount of age. An impeccable wine with several more years on it. Merry chris+mas to me! #brandervineyard #visitSYV

Who’s gonna win this round? Peep the next post to find out! 🍷vs🍷 . Chairman’s Selection Broken Earth Winery Region: CA → Paso Robles Vintage: 2014 Grape: Merlot ABV: 15.2% Price: $12.99 Store: 214 Appearance: Medium-depth but slightly read-through, minimal color-variation from the center to the rim, sparkly ruby tones throughout with a bit of a strawberry pink toward the edge. Nose: blackberry, cherry, bit of smokiness, leather Palate : Medium-plus acidity, medium tannin, juicy pomegranate and blackberry with a warming alcohol that lingers in the back of your throat, but outside of that the fruit and any secondary flavors dissipate quickly. Background: Broken Earth Winery makes over a dozen different labels focused on varying regions, yields, production, varietals, and aging. The Broken Earth estate series is one of their more humble labels. According to their winemaker, Aussie-native Chris Cameron, they are committed to sustainable practices (water recycling, solar power, etc). Meg’s Selection Dusted Valley “Boomtown” Region: Washington → Columbia Valley Vintage: 2013 Grape: 91% Merlot, 6% Cab Sauv, 3% Petit Verdot ABV: 14.6% Price: $15.99 Store: 214 Appearance: Medium depth, deep rich ruby tones in the middle, fading into a slight brick towards the rim. Nose: Black cherry, plum, black tea, baking spice Palate: Medium-minus acidity, medium tannin, red fruit, dry, crunchy leaves, short finish Background: Boomtown is the value-driven offering from Dusted Valley owner / winemakers Chad & Corey. Their Dusted Valley labels range in the $30+ range and use estate fruit from more specific sub-appellations within the Columbia Valley and Walla Walla regions, focusing on limited yields and smaller overall production. Boomtown sources its grapes from the relatively large area of Columbia Valley and produces about 3x as more than the Dusted Valley premium bottling. Nevertheless, they are focused on a simple approach to winemaking in terms of limited intervention in the winery and a focus on how the grapes are grown in the vineyard.

{Clarendelle Amberwine, 2012: 7.5/10} Great value wine & classic Sémillon notes; better value than Rieussec for me. I liked it a little warmer than typical to maximise the apricot and peachy hues; sweet toffee follows. Worth breathing it for an hour or so, brings out more light fruity hues. You don’t get too much more than what you expect but it got me through a film . .
