Today we went to the Sugar Museum, where we learned about some of the cultural wounds on #iledelareunion. Slavery existed here as it did in the United States, with a similar timeline for its abolition, followed by indentured servitude, as was true in the United States. And like in the United States, the economic repercussions have lasted generations - similarly exacerbated by the introduction of technology and the replacement of labor-based jobs.
It makes me wonder how the abolition of slavery played out in other parts of the world. Did they all have similar timelines? How did the US and Réunion get the same memo? We are taught about the Civil War and the abolition of slavery from the US perspective. Now I am wondering if theres a global perspective missing. Must research... We also went to the turtle museum where we saw a whole bunch of turtles - big ones, small ones, beaky ones, baby ones - and also about humans have, ya know, done what we do to everything beautiful.
Takeaway: turtles are awesome. Colonialism sucks. And i love that the museums here seem to be interested in telling the whole story.

It sure looks like a beautiful day outside
But I haven’t left the apartment for 7 days during my period and it kind of put me back at stage one where I’m afraid of leaving the apartment again
I’m realizing that this will always happen where i am in a situation that I should stay in for a while but I need to learn how to come out of it faster every time 🙌🏽
It’s not bad to have bad agoraphobic days, I think it’s only bad if we believe that there will be no more good and awesome days.
Agoraphobia is like a roller coaster
It has ups and downs
Or that what I’m learning from my own experience.
I feel like going for a swim 🏊♂️ it’s super cold today
It’s 2C so I’m sure the neighbors are still in bed ☺️
Somehow there’s a force and a resistance holding me back 😔
I used to get so sad when I can’t go outside but now I understand that it’s necessary for my mental health
So if I could go out today or I couldn’t
I will feel satisfied and accomplished 🙌🏽
