Had the best kind of afternoon yesterday with my babe, exploring a new (to us) park. This girl could walk for hours, y’all, and there was tons of different terrain to challenge her. If I picked her up at all, she wriggled and cried, “Walk, walk!” Then, if I straggled too far behind, she said, “Mama walk,” and pointed to the ground next to her. Ok, Baby, Mama will walk right beside you, always. ❤️
Her joy in wandering reminded me once again that everything is so new and marvelous to her. Even things as simple as big oak leaves crunching beneath her feet, or a trying to get down old stone steps on her own. So I marveled with her. It felt wonderful to be truly present with her there, even if for just a few moments. 🌿
Man this was an unexpectedly sappy post! But my heart was so full after such a simple outing ❤️. Can’t wait for our adventures this long weekend! Can you recount a time lately when you truly enjoyed the simple moments with your child? Tell me👇🏻!

I know I’m short, but.... 🤷🏻♀️🙈📬
Hopping on an airplane at the crack of dawn tomorrow with my lady love to go see these other two stinkers for this long weekend! It was an unexpected trip that my sister booked us last minute, and I CAN’T WAIT! 🙌🏻
I am close with both of my sisters, so even though we are hundreds of miles away, I love their children like they were my own. Thank goodness for FaceTime, so at least Lucy knows her “DoDo” and “TeeTee.” I love seeing her play with them, even if it’s just laughing at their rough housing from a far. ❤️
Do you have a long weekend this weekend? Any plans to fill it up??
I can totally get behind the whole “babe with heart balloons” movement this year. I mean, look at how precious it is! 💕🎈
I can also get behind making Galentines a thing. Growing up, I always dreamed of having a daughter. Someone to share my favorite parts about being a girl with and who I could guide and empower to be a strong woman. This gal is straight out of these dreams: perfect parts sweet, spunky, and smart. God sure knew what he was doing when he sent her down to me. ✨
Today we made some valentines for some of Lu’s favorite people and gave her a little valentine of her own ❤️. Did you do anything with your babes?
Downloaded Dropbox to my new phone last night and fell through the rabbit hole of Lucy’s newborn pictures, done by the talented @rachelhigginsphotography. Proof that she’s really been a wildflower since birth. 😉🌸🌺
Having been around young kids since I was a teen, I felt so self-assured about having a baby myself. What a dummy! 😂 I look back at these pictures and remember being so unsure, nervous about taking my brand new baby girl out, how to hold her, and breastfeeding her in public for the first time. Our usually quiet babe was fussy this entire day, amplifying my nerves! But Rachel exuded patience and calm. She was so gentle with Lucy, helping to shush her back to sleep, and I remember being so grateful. ❤️
Already that day is just a blip in our lives that I look back on fondly. Do you have any moments like this? Parenthood is quite the magical mystical tour, isn’t it?? Also, LOOK AT THOSE SQUISHY CHEEKS!!!
Something a little different: playing with light falloff in our dining area. I’m a natural light junkie, and one goal I have this year is to learn to use the light in my house better for photos. I love shooting and adventuring with my girl outside, but I’d like to document more of our daily life, which takes place more inside of our abode. I rather like how this first pic turned out...my sweet little dream girl. ❤️
Also, I bribed Lu with a cookie to sit for this picture because a perfect ray of sunlight was streaming through our back slider...is that indicative of a problem? 😂🍪
Have you guys used this trick? It’s pretty easy and amazingly masks the junk in the background! Got any tips you use for indoor photos? I’m all ears!
Staring down Monday like, “I got this!” Fresh new week, fresh new day, fresh new opportunity to OWN IT. Not to mention dreaming up some Valentine’s goodies for my favorite little love! ❤️💕💗
Do you guys have any plans or Valentine traditions for the wee ones in your life? I’d love to hear them, as this is the first year Lulu will care about anything!
This morning my mama heart is full of pride because my horrible sleeper, who has always slept with us, who has been 100% dependent on rocking, nursing, patting or other soothing to fall asleep asked to go “nigh night this?” in her own bed for her nap! I still laid with her to sleep but, you know, baby steps, people. 🙌🏻
Also, this quilt was made for us out of vintage fabric from one of my husband’s coworker’s moms. She sent to us from states away. I remember being blown away by the love I felt from complete strangers when Lucy was on her way. Babies just have a way of bringing people together, I suppose ❤️.
Happy Saturday, friends!
Lucy, looking into the possibilities for this weekend ❤️... (TRUTH: This is actually a picture of my child feigning intense interest in a flower to avoid looking at me for a picture 😂).
We don’t have big plans for this weekend and that’s is A-👌🏻 with me. I’m a true introvert, so it’s crucial for my well-being to leave some space in my schedule for nothing, or for uncharted adventure. How about you? Do you prefer a packed schedule or flexible one? ✨

I can’t tell if this picture is magic or mess 😂... I was playing with golden hour light and the bubbles for @misskyreeloves weekly photo challenge, but toddlers are so difficult to catch in action 😳😱🤪. Oh well, I like it, so on my feed it goes!
Thirteen months feels beautiful and different.
She just got out of bed only a few days ago and needed me to understand that today she has a favorite book, she wants blueberries not apples, and she wants to go outside because playing in puddles is her favorite game.
She looks at me when I’m talking and I know she understands and wants to share her thoughts with me. I’m trying to slow down enough to listen.
Not to overgram, but my post this morning got me thinking that I really wanted to say more about tending my “inner garden” 🌸🌹🌿. I haven’t felt inspired to blog in weeks so it was nice to put my thoughts down. Click the link in my bio for more!
// Where you tend a rose my lad, a thistle cannot grow. // 🌹
I warned you guys that The Secret Garden quotes would just keep rolling in but they’re just so relevant to this season of my life! 😂
Raising people is hard, we all know, but I often think about how to raise GOOD people. Children are our chance to leave this world better than whence we entered it, but how exactly do you tend the seeds of kindness, generosity, and hope? How do you really instill in them to love above all else? I work with small children and I see these qualities as innate in humans, something that comes naturally...so how do we keep the weeds of this world from drowning them out? How do YOU try to do this? 🌿
I’ve also been working on tending the roses within my own heart and mind. For a time and for various reasons, I had let the wicked ways of the world invade my personal garden, to choke out the love I had always carried inside of me for people and myself. Let me tell you friends, it feels so much better to let love bloom! 🌸
Thanks for listening to my heart this morning, happy HUMP DAY! 🐪
// Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes and she’s gone // 🌞
When you are older, I will tell you how Papa and I knew your name long before you were born. How he was a fan of this band called The Beatles, and how Lucy is the one name we both knew instantly would be our little girl’s someday, if we ever had her. How Mama cried as soon as the cranky ultrasound lady told us, “It’s a girl,” because I was finally having my own little girl with kaleidoscope eyes. How everyone knew you as Lucy even as a rambunctious little babe in my belly. I hoped you’d be curious and kind. You are so much more. ❤️
Did your child’s name come easily to you? I love to hear name stories, comment with yours down there 👇🏻!
