Liverpool are involved in talks about a potential pre-season tour of America this summer.
The Reds currently have a number of proposals on the table as Jurgen Klopp considers how best to prepare his squad for the 2018/19 campaign.
A trip to the USA is on the cards in July but the length of their stay and how many matches they will play remains a topic of discussion between organisers, sponsors, Klopp and the club’s commercial team.
One option would see the Reds stay in the States from July 20 to July 29 but the ECHO understands that nothing has been signed off yet. Klopp is keen to also have a Europe-based training camp before the start of the new Premier League season on August 11. The World Cup in June provides an added complication when it comes to making pre-season plans.
The tournament in Russia doesn’t finish until July 15 and lucrative contracts for showpiece summer friendlies usually stipulate that a club’s star players must be involved.
If Mohamed Salah’s Egypt, Roberto Firmino’s Brazil or Sadio Mane’s Senegal were to enjoy an extended run in the knockout stages of the World Cup then they would still be on holiday when Liverpool head for the States. The Reds are likely to have at least one warm-up game at Anfield - the first for four years. Jurgen Klopp says the depth in the current Liverpool squad is the best of his managerial career. The former Borussia Dortmund boss believes the Reds are in fine shape as they look to maintain a top-four challenge in the Premier League and compete for Champions League glory. •Klopp is confident that competition for places will help maintain high standards on the back of last week’s stunning 5-0 thrashing of FC Porto. • On a night when Emre Can was banned and Nathaniel Clyne was still building up his fitness after long-term injury, Klopp didn’t even have room for the likes of Dominic Solanke, Ragnar Klavan and Ben Woodburn on the bench. It’s really hard in the moment to make the squad,” Klopp told #liv#liverpoolfc • Wow, I’ve never had a situation like that with the quality of the players not being in the squad. They all have made really big steps. Dom Solanke was not in the squad but is in outstanding shape at the moment. Ragnar Klavan , unbelievable. Ben Woodburn makes steps and is really close to everything. It’s difficult, it’s getting more and more difficult, but that’s good for us of course.”🤙🙌🔴🔴✅ #lfc#lfc_news24h#thereds#wearelfc#lovelfc#lfcfans#thekop#ynwa#goreds #liverpoolfc #redmen#melwood#lfcfamily#thisisanfield#cmonreds#klopp#klopplfc#wijnaldum#henderson#mane#salah#firmino#vvd
