Day 5 of #japanrevisited2018 🗾 We decided to visit some sights in Kyoto we had not seen, and since it was closest too our accomodation we started with the shrines located in the Tadasu-no-mori Forest in Northern Kyoto. One of the shrines in this sanctuary complex is Kawai-jinja. Especially women come here to pray for easy childbirth, beauty, finding a husband etc. Interestingly, there are signed footballs (or "soccer" balls, how some might call it) at a mini-shrine that is dedicated to Yatagarasu, a three legged cow that is the symbol of Japanese Football ("soccer") teams. ⚽ In the forest is also famous Shinogamo-jinja, one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Here an ancient football-type ceremony called Kemari Hajime is conducted. This is also the reason for the enshrinement of Yatagarasu at the nearby Kawai-jinja. Wow!
