First WOD for a long while. Scaled today's @crossfitwod and focused on quality movement. Given that most of my moving recently has been bodyweight squats and cycling, I knew I didn't need to push for a high score today. Today was all about getting back into the groove.
Know what you need from your training. The discussion of training vs competing is always a good one to come back to - if you're always chasing a score, when are you improving your mechanics or doing the tune ups for your well-being?
The workouts where I fight for every second and seek the highest possible score in x minutes will come as they come. The short term is about technique and building. Building a better athlete, building a better coach, building a better daughter, building a better girlfriend, building a better friend, building a better person. 'Nuff tests are coming soon enough.

🦄The fitness industry runs on a pendulum of extremes. Everything is either good or bad. Right or wrong. Healthy or unhealthy. Fattening or fat burning. Issue is, things aren't that black and white. And creating these false dichotomies is what digs us further into fitness "ruts" that are harder and harder to climb out of.
☕️Cardio is the prime example. For a long time, cardio was *it.* THE thing. Everyone ran or biked or swam or roller skated or flew their brooksticks. Weight lifting was "dangerous," not "functional," and only for meat heads and Slytherins.
🦄Recently, though, all this changed. Nowadays weight lifting is the end-all-be-all of fitness, whereas cardio is hated on and made fun of. Hell, I see coaches every day bragging about how they don't do any cardio whatsoever - only heavy lifting - and stay shredded year round.
☕️And that's great. It really is. But there's more to fitness than staying shredded. And just because you don't need to do something to get shredded, doesn't mean it won't help. Nor does it mean there aren't a cauldron full of other benefits. Truth is, both cardio and weights have a ton of benefits, each of which complement the other.
🦄Between you and me, I don't want to be a one trick pony. Sure, deadlifting 4x my body weight is great. But I also like running a 6min mile. And not getting winded every time I go up a flight of stairs. And, as weird as it sounds, I like finishing a workout out of breath and sweaty and feeling like I just beat the snot out of a mountain troll.
☕️For me, strategically doing both weights and cardio is the best way to get the best of both worlds. So you can be strong as all hell, and the fittest one in the room. You don't have to choose - you can do both.

Being a mom can be really difficult. The tantrums, the teething, the sleepless nights and zombie days, feeling guilty for wanting time away, and feeling guilty for not feeling guilty when you get the time away. Then when you compound depression and anxiety into it all, it feels like you’re reeling into a pit of never ending self pity and deprecation.
Today’s transformation Tuesday is brought to you by a mama who finally loves the earth moving, amazing things about being a parent AND the things that are harder than anything you’ve ever experienced. Because today, this mama is
H A P P Y, knows she is worthy, valued, respected and that she belongs in this crazy role of being a mama and a caregiver.
I didn’t get to this place by accident, I made a commitment to make myself a little bit better everyday until I finally got here. I don’t workout and eat well to look good in a bikini (although that will be a big plus this summer), I do it because it helps me re align my thinking into the positive and fuels me inside to be a better person to those around me. And without my online community of women cheering me on, there’s no way I would have stuck to this. I am so thankful to them and I hope I can return the favor to other mamas who are looking for the light in the dark days and nights like I was.
I was asked by a stranger what Tatty Gusset means the other day. I've had it bubbling away because I've always loved the sound, look and feel of the words together, but I haven't been able to articulate why. Tatty Gusset... Tatty-An endearing word for imperfect, also; scrappy, ragamuffin, delightfully dishevelled. Gusset- The part of your knickers that covers your intimate parts. Some people react at the name by thinking it's a bit gross or distasteful, and it's never bothered me cos I always thought if they're that square they won't get me anyway. It makes me think of a fantastically feral beauty. Sexually liberated without taboo. Playful, cheeky, a touch of the old world gypsy traveller. And above all it's strong. So lovely stranger, there you have it! I must credit @terram_pacifici for helping me come up with the name on a journey some place, and also for taking these beautiful photos. Thank you 💚

~”Beauty is in the way you hold yourself. It’s how you treat people. The way you love. It’s self acceptance. Beauty is in your soul.”~
It’s so interesting the way people perceive other people. I got into lifting/fitness after I finished competitive sports in college. It was an emotional time in my life. It was the first time ever that I didn’t know exactly what came next. I’ve since fallen in love with body building because it gave me a confidence I was lacking. I love the fact that I can push myself and get better every single day. .
The more I get to know people in the fitness industry the more I see people turned to fitness as an outlet from a tough time. And I think that’s pretty great. So please hold off the “egotistical” judgments until you really get to know someone. .
The gym is a big part of my life, but it damn sure doesn’t define me. .
