"I started playin' forty years ago, I'm 63 now, Charlie Parker started it all for me... I blame him. I listened to Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Sam Cooke but I never listen to my mother! My teacher told me when I was young that I'm never going to make any money out of jazz, "learn classical saxophone there you've got a shot. There's no more money in jazz!" he said. After a while I dropped out and joined a soul band. Never really made much off the music, enough for booze and grub. But what was I supposed to do man? I just love the music."
