On the bus to Siem Reap, my seat mate and I struck up conversation, starting with basic details about life and eventually including faith. It was a beautiful moment of connection and before we disembarked Thaileng offered to connect me to a member of his church who was a tour guide and could bring me around Angkor Wat. I graciously accepted the offer as I was living moment to moment and hadn’t made plans.
The next morning a tuktuk driver arrived at my hotel and whisked me off to the main temple complex where Thaileng and an English speaking guide met me for a day of touring. Angkor Wat is immense in scale but there are so many small details that draw the eye. It’s a universe of its own, and each temple in the area has its its own unique collection of dancing apsaras, animal guardians, nagas, bas reliefs that tell epic stories, and other beautiful architectural details. Angkor Wat is actually bigger than the Vatican and rivals or surpasses anything created in Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries. And this was just the first of many temples I had the opportunity to see. #angorwat#cambodia#tra#travel#temple#siemreap#apsara#naga #travel #latergram#architecture

Couldn’t resist snapping my camera as I passed this adorable girl but I didn’t realize it came out like this until later. Quite pleased as this park I visited is kind of a special place for families. They take their pictures with all the flowers, much like children would do in the pumpkin patches back in Canada in autumn. This little girl was really ready for her big moment. Such a cutie.
