Ashadya replaced a very old sail in Gymea which had separated at the fabric joins. The client was very happy to use Monotec370 6.5m width rolls which meant no fabric joins at all in his new sail #ashadya#shade#shadesails
Whether it's because they've been having prolific sex, or just because they live beneath the baking African sun, ground squirrels have to find means to keep cool when their internal temperatures climb... neat thing is, they have one of the most beautifully designed adaptations for protecting themselves from sunburn...
For many mammals that's fur, sweating (not for pigs), breathing technique, wallowing, drinking, nocturnal lifestyles, habitat choice... for ground squirrels, it's many of those things - PLUS, they have an in-built sunshade-umbrella-hat-fan thing! And they're not afraid to use it. (see first pic)
Another cool behaviour I've seen them doing is, like I've also observed in Meerkats, laying on the ground (in sun or shade, depending on how close to the den it is) kinda pushing their bodies down into the sand & covering themselves with cooler sand from below the surface - which they dig up using their forearms. This insulates the area between sand > fur > skin, while also acting as a sunscreen layer of sorts, reflecting the sun's harsh rays.
How clever are they!!? 🐿
