I've talked a little bit about my grandma here and on my blog. She was one of my favorite people, with a big heart, an inquiring mind, and creative hands. She painted this sunflower, and I had the good fortune of finding it among my old things last week. More than that, she was an avid sewist, and even though she didn't teach me directly how to sew, she loved checking my work whenever she visited my family (she lived in LA, we lived in San Diego). My grandmother was one of the biggest role models for me. Even more than a creative person, she was a kind, caring woman. She passed from complications from cervical cancer in 2014. In our last conversation together, she asked me "is his (my husband) family good to you?" She had trouble speaking at this point but I think she just wanted to know that I was happy and would be ok. I really loved her, and so I keep her close in my memories and in the things she gave me, like this painting and the handmade doll that you see in these photos. Her name is Precy, for her. #inmemory#sewinglegacy#makersmovement

Happy #Tuesday! I hope you have a terrific day 😊
Just as there are fashion designers, there are fabric designers! Over the last year I have fallen in love with fabrics by @nicolemillernyc because they usually feature bold floral or abstract prints which I really enjoy. Living in Albuquerque has been amazing, but we don't have a wide variety of fabric stores here, so whenever @joann_stores partners with a fashion designer to come up with a new line of fabric it's always very exciting!

Guys! I finally got my act together enough to create my website and even write a post. I would love it if you’d check it out and feel free to share if you think you know people who’d enjoy it too. You can find the link in my profile!
Meet the makers. When you own a piece of Diamond Brand Gear, you know where it comes from. We proudly build our goods in the Carolina Mountains. And they are built by amazing individuals! This week meet Austin.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: I have lived in Arden for a decade, minus the time I was in the Army. Growing up I lived in a lot of different places.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT SEWING AND CREATING: I like to be able to see a tangible result of my work. Making goods by function leads to that result. I have worked as a blacksmith, welder, and landscaper. I love working with my hands. Nothing is worse than sitting at a desk moving numbers around.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DIAMOND BRAND: Just a few months.
FAVORITE FOOD: I got a lot of favorite foods. I like variety. Sushi, real Italian, and good German are a couple.
HIDDEN TALENT/FAVORITE ACTIVITY/PAST TIME: I speak a little bit of 4 languages including German, Arabic, and Spanish.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS AREA, MOUNTAINS: Hard to say, I can’t really put my finger on it. I can tell you, when I was in California I really missed the Mountains, but there is something special about this place
