"I remember when I first met you
Sipping coffee in a corner booth" (Dan + Shay)
I’d do it 100 x over again. Not because “attachment” or “need” or “requirement” or “dependency”. A relationship / friendship / love is not oxygen & sustenance. In a world with a permanent facade where judgment is around every corner, & it’s exhausting at times to just “be”; to value & be valued is carelessly underrated. Simply put, your place in my life has taught me things that I wouldn’t have known without you, which has made me a little less ignorant in a very ignorant time. I have opportunities to put myself second, which allow me to escape, even if only temporarily, the ugly selfishness that is vanity. I can be myself; an opportunity often taken for granted under the assumption that we think we know what will happen or how things are going to be. In a very unlucky world you’re very lucky when someone appreciates you from flaw to toe, because we’re undeserving. Someone’s care for you is not your burden. It’s not disposable. It’s one nice thing that landed on your doorstep. It’s an honor to receive, & an an honor to give. Perhaps that’s why it’s called “maid of honor”. & I’m forever grateful that you simply exist. Je t’aime ma sœur.
