WHICH SHOT ➡️ DO YOU LIKE BETTER? 1 or 2?
I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better so I’m posting them both. I wish the label text was clearer in the second one but hey... this #beertography game has a steep learning curve. Pictured is a 2013 Commander Reserve from @deadfrogbrewery in Aldergrove, BC. A big, bold, 10.5% Russian Imperial Stout aged at the Brewery and released for sale in late 2016. Each bottle is numbered and wax dipped. This bottle is 200/600. Now for the taste... I have had the original 2013 release and the first thing I notice is the booziness has subsided letting way to a super chocolate and brown sugar richness. Hits of smoke and espresso linger on the finish with the hops all but mellowed out into this amazing brew. I’m a huge fan of Dead Frog’s motto “Collect Experiences, not things” - This beer was an experience!
Kabert, Russian Imperial Stout 11.5% De Struise Brouwers Oostvleteren West-Vlaanderen Belgium in collaboration with Porthsmouth Berwery Porthsmouth NH USA.
Busy beer weekend with a little tasting session on Friday where i tasted the new Emelisse White Label's together with Rob and Gert Jan (see my reviews from saturday and sunday) and 2 bottles Rob supported which i will review today.
Saturday a bottleshare with Jochem, Lianne and Monika, so there is more than enough to review this week, which is good cause yesterday a bad cold popped up, coughing, running nose and dead tastebuds, the biggest enemey if you want to taste beer. But.. as said.. enough to review this week and hopefuly recovered by next weekend.
But back to the beer.. after we tasted the Emelisse's Rob pulled 2 beers from his collection, which he had won with a raffle.
The first beer we tasted was this 2011 Kabert from de Struise Brouwers, yep one from Urbain Coutteau and his team.
The beer is a blend their famous Black Albert and Kate the Great from Porthsmouth Brewery USA which had aged on port barrels after blending.
It's wonderful to see how beautiful the has aged.
Although 6 years old there was still enough carbonation, the beer is a very complex one and there is so much going on that it took Gert Jan and me about half a hour to finish our 10 cl.
Blue and red fruits, chocolate, plum, cherries, port, wood, earthy, vanilla, caramel, and even some flavors which where hard to devine..man oh man.. this was gooood!!
Sure a unique beer and not something i tasted every day.
Thanx for sharing Rob!
