What does acting mean to you personally? . . "I hate to be normal. I had been normal all of my life and then I discovered acting. Acting is an excuse for me to behave any way I want. Sometimes when I’m normally talking with people, I feel judged – I feel a bit self-conscious. But, when I’m acting I can act completely crazy without being judged. When I'm acting, I know for a fact that I won't be judged for how I am because everyone around me knows that I'm acting. . . It's also about the experiences I have during acting. Every time I act, I get different experiences. I can act like you - that's a different experience. I can act like my friend - that's a different experience. This gets me excited." . . (4/4)

What keeps you acting? Where does your drive come from? . . "I don't want to say passion. I just like doing it. A lot of people, when they say passion, they probably have an end goal. They'll say, “this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.” They'll say, “I have this goal and in 5 years or 10 years I want to reach this goal.” What I've observed is a lot of people have this passion but after a number of years, they stop. It always makes me wonder about why they stopped. Usually they have other commitments and those come up. People even message me and tell me sometimes, "Wow, I used to like acting too but then I stopped." Hearing this kind of stuff scares me. Why would you stop if you liked it? . . I don't want to be like them. This led me to taking acting less seriously and not calling it a passion, but something that I just like to do. Do you see that difference? When you take it seriously and call it a passion, you tend to have expectations. You tend to have goals. I don't want to take my work that seriously. I like what I'm doing and I'm just going to keep doing it. Acting feels easy and natural to me and I'm going to keep doing it as long as I can keep doing it. . . I used to have end goals. But end goals aren't important to me anymore. If I were to have an end goal with acting, I'd risk feeling disappointed. You know what I'm saying? I just want to keep on doing it. I know myself well and if I were to get disappointed, I'd stop what I'm doing. I don't want to stop this. Not having a goal lets me keep at it." . . (3/4)

Tell me about your journey to becoming a YouTube actor. When did you realize you liked acting and how did your channel begin? . . "I first started acting in middle school. I needed an excuse to be good at something. Drama class was the excuse. The teacher gave me a script. It was so simple. I performed it with a partner and all I had to do was respond to his questions with a “yes” or “no” but each time with a different expression. I gave it my all. I put everything into it. Once it was done, people started clapping. Even though the script was so simple, my expressions and the way I had performed - It was a hit! When people clap for you for the first time and say that you're really good, you start thinking, "Shit, I am good! I like this." I got an award for drama class. Interestingly, in high school, I got another award for drama. But the day they were giving it out, I slept in and wasn't at the school assembly. I honestly wasn't expecting to get another award. I had to go to the school office later to pick it up. . . The YouTube channel started in university. In second year of University, I realized I hated what I was doing. I was taking public administration. I didn't want to drop out because before that, I was actually in a different program and dropped out of it after two weeks. I didn't want to do the same thing with this program. So I stuck to it. I finished the program. But throughout doing it, it became very apparent that I wanted to try doing acting instead. So, near the end of university, my friend and I shot a video together and uploaded it on YouTube. At that time, obviously my friends were the only ones that watched it. It got like 50 views. I've been at this for three years now. We're close to having 27000 subscribers on YouTube." . . (2/4)

This is Tharshan. Tharshan is a YouTube actor on a channel called "Basement Reels." The channel is a combination of comedy and drama shorts and a platform to engage the South Asian community in discussions about things that are often swept under the rug (Ex. homosexuality, sexual abuse, and other very important topics). . . The other day, while I was stepping into my friend's apartment, I was surprised to find Tharshan standing in front of me. I had been following Tharshan on YouTube for quite a while, so it was like meeting a celebrity. I knew that Tharshan and my friend were close. What I didn't know was that they had become roommates! Luckily, I had my camera on me and we ended up doing a shoot! . . If you're looking for a good laugh or want something new to think about, check out Basement Reels on YouTube and go follow them on Instagram @basementreels . . (1/4)

The world sucks sometimes , people are mean and compete with one another instead of lift each other up. Don’t be a mean girl, don’t judge a man based on things don’t matter. Nobody’s perfect but let’s just try to be better than yesterday. So easy to loose sight of things that matter through social media. N
