In this story in Acts 3 Peter and John are on their way to the temple for a prayer service when they encounter a lame man begging for money. Peter and John could have rushed by thinking they needed to get to the temple and didn't have time for an interaction with this man but they didn't. They stopped. They looked intently at him meaning they focused all their attention on him. *In Colossians 4:5 Paul tells us we are to make the most of every opportunity we are given to share Christ. The problem is we are in a hurry. We rush from one activity to another rarely stopping to notice those God has placed in our path. What we are doing may be good, it may even be spiritual but if we are so focused on ourselves, our agenda, our stuff; how can we even see the opportunities God gives us to share His salvation story, let alone make the most of them? We need to slow down enough to give our full attention to those around us, being sensitive to God's Spirit in us to listen and obey when He says, "Tell them your story." *Will you slow down and take notice today? How will you make the most of the opportunities God gives you to share His salvation story? #slowdown #noticepeople #makethemostofeveryopportunity #sharegod #colossalchristians #pleasingaromaministries

We live in what I call "our little cottage in the woods" with large oaks and pines as close as ten feet from our home. So when we have high wind days like we had with Irma yesterday I am in constant prayer for God's protection of our home. The winds we had yesterday were by far the strongest we've ever had and His protection of us was felt and realized when the only tree down was thirty feet from our home. We praise Him for His protection, truly He controls the winds and the waves. We pray for those who lost everything in this storm and especially for those who lost dearly loved ones. 馃檹馃徎Father God, You are the God of all creation. You are stronger than the strongest winds and You are more powerful than the most powerful wave. We praise You for Your protection through the storm. But, Father, as we praise You, we lift up those who lost all their earthly treasure because of this storm. May they realize the things of earth can be replaced. Give them patience as they work to rebuild their homes. Give them eternal perspective as they begin to replace the things they have lost. And Father, we especially pray for those who lost loved ones in this storm. As they walk through this valley strengthen them to see You, hold them close and let them feel Your mighty presence with them. Send people to them who will be Your arms holding them close and Your feet walking beside them. We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen. #praisehiminthestorm #godcontrolsthewindsandwaves #godisourrefuge #eternalperspective #pleasingaromaministries

Esteem: to value; aim; to endeavor after *What is highly esteemed among men? Power. Prestige. Possessions. Position. Performance. Perfection. Partying. Abomination: anything greatly disliked or abhorred; a vile, shameful or detestable action, condition, habit *What in your life would God consider an abomination? 馃檹馃徎Lord, I do not want to be an abomination to You and yet I look at my life and there are things, habits, attitudes-whole areas- that are highly esteemed by men. I don't have that perfect body and so I aim for it, I endeavor after it; not because my body is Your temple but because the world tells me I should look a certain way. I possess way more than I need and yet aim for more; not so I can give to others but so the world can see. Oh Father! Forgive me. Forgive me and help me. Help me aim for a heart of flesh, endeavoring to be a woman after Your own heart. Help me seek mercy, do justly and walk humbly with my God. Help me value having a gentle and quiet spirit. Show me how to balance any power, prestige, possessions and position I have in this world with the position and perfection I have in Christ Jesus. Lord, I don't want to be an abomination to You but an attraction for You. I don't want people to see my power but Yours. I want to live a life that is highly esteemed in Your sight. Holy Spirit, help me! In Jesus' name, Amen #esteemedbygod #hisperfection #hispower #allgod #pleasingaromaministries

Just heard an awesome sermon on relationship by @wessorrells He taught us that Jesus picked up a towel for those He loved the most, even knowing that they would betray, deny, and abandon Him. Wes told us that God is relational and He created us to be as well. Relationships are important because they are what hold life together...relationship with God, relationship with others. Wes challenged us to truly be present in the lives of others, to put down our phones or papers, or books or to turn off the tv and have FaceTime with those around us...not the app on our phone but true face-to-face, look them in the eye time with others. He challenged us to be engaged in life, to show up for people. And he left us with this statement and question: Jesus picked up a towel for His disciples. Who will you pick up a towel for? #bethere #showupforyourpeople #bepresent #beengaged #pickupatowel #loveothers #pleasingaromaministries #monroefumc #ilovemychurch

Did you know that the God of the universes yearns for you? He yearns for a relationship with you. He yearns for sweet fellowship with you. He yearns for communion with you. Since sin entered the world way back in Genesis 3, God has yearned for us. You are His handiwork, He planned for you from the foundations of the earth. He placed you here "for such a time as this." And He yearns to see you fulfilling the plans and purposes He has for your life. Sometimes we cannot see God let alone hear His voice but we can know that He is there. He is yearning for us to find Him amidst the busyness of this life. He is yearning to be heard above all the other voices. We simply need to slow down enough to truly listen for Him. When we do we will hear the song He sings over us with rejoicing. Will you slow down and listen today? It may be He answers you through His word, or through His creation, or like He did for me yesterday, through the random text from a friend. He is yearning for you because you are His handiwork and He desires true relationship, fellowship, communion with YOU! #godyearnsforyou #hishandiwork #listen #hear #godsingsoveryou #pleasingaromaministries

What concerns you today? What has you all knotted up inside? Worried? Fearful? Frustrated? When we humble our hearts before God, accept the guilt of our sin, and turn to Him He really does perfect all that concerns us. It may not be the way we would do it but His ways are so much higher than ours, so much better. His ways are perfect. So give Him all that concerns you, all that worry, all that fear, all that frustration, all that keeps you in knots and trust that He will perfect it all. Father God, my concerns are many, sometimes they overwhelm me and keep me in knots. Forgive me for not trusting you with all these concerns, worries, fears, frustrations. Today I humble myself before You, I accept the guilt of my sin of distrust, of unbelief. Today I choose to walk in Your ways knowing that when I do You will perfect all that concerns me, working everything out for my good and Your glory! Thank You! In Jesus' name, Yes and Amen! #knots #concerns #worries #frustrations #rollyourburdensonhim #godswaysareperfect #heperfectsallthatconcernsme #pleasingaromaministries

Nehemiah wrote this while he and those with him were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Their enemies were taunting them trying to get them to stop their work. But Nehemiah and the Israelites would not be stopped. They knew the work they were doing was God's work and they were not going to allow enemy voices and threats to stop God's work. So what did they do? They prayed then they set a watch against the enemy and they kept working. . . Satan is the enemy of our souls. Everyday he taunts us with shouts of temptation, with yells full of lies. His main objective is to keep us from doing God's work. He has many strategies. He causes us to doubt God. He causes us to worry. He causes us to fear everyone and everything but God. Don't listen to him! . . Peter tells us in 1Peter 5:7-8: "Cast all your care on Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion; looking for whom he can devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith." . . Father God, I have made my prayer to You, casting all my cares, concerns, worries, doubts and fears on You. I do this because I know You care for me. And I know You are the only one able to do anything about them anyway. You are Mighty God and I am not. You know best how to accomplish all things and what You start You always finish. But what can I do, what should I do? What You tell me to do is set a watch against my enemy, to be sober, be vigilant because Satan is prowling around seeking whom he may devour. And in true predator fashion he goes after the weakest in the pack. I don't want to be the weakest! Help me stay strong by staying submitted to You. Help me stay strong by staying saturated in Your Word. Help me stay strong by standing firm in Your armor each and everyday. And when that ole lion begins to attack those closest to me give me all I need to stand in the gap and fight for them when they don't even know they're in a battle. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Russ and I saw this rainbow on our walk this morning. It was a phenomenon I have never seen before. There was no rain, just clouds. The sun was just rising in the eastern sky when we saw this rainbow in the clouds across the western sky. God seems to know the exact moment I need encouragement, the exact time when I need to be reminded of His faithfulness. He is the Great Promise Keeper. He has promised me many things and I need to remember. But the interesting part about this verse in Genesis is that God said He was placing the rainbow in the clouds; not so WE will remember His covenant, but so that HE will remember. By the time we finished our walk the rainbow had stretched across the sky and I heard God whisper, "I have not forgotten. I remember the promises I have made to you." What about you? Is there a promise you feel God has forgotten He made to you? Will you look at this rainbow and know that He never forgets but is faithful to do all He has promised? #rainbow #godremembers #godkeepshispromises #promisekeeper #believe #pleasingaromaministries

We learn in Hebrews that it is impossible for God to lie...it's the one thing our Mighty God cannot do. Jesus called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is Truth personified. But He tells us that Satan is the father of lies, that he can't even tell the truth because the truth is not in him. Yep. God cannot lie, but Satan sure can! And here lately he's been trying to tell me some doozies! But this morning I heard God tell me not to listen to that ole deceiver. He reminded me that Satan is out to kill, steal, and destroy everything good in me and from me. 1 Timothy 4:1 says: "The Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits." And Luke 8:18 tells us: "Take heed how you hear." So today when that ole deceiver tries to whisper lies to me I'm gonna shout back God's Truth to him. I'm gonna remind him that his days are numbered. I'm gonna tell him to go back from whence he came because Jesus lives here and he has no place here! What about you? Are there lies Satan is whispering in your ear? Today will you counter those lies with God's Truth? Write down the lie Satan is trying to get you to believe and then search God's Word for His Truth and write that down, crossing out the lie. Shout God's Truth until that ole deceiver has to flee! #lies #satanisthefatheroflies #truth #godstruth #jesus #believe #pleasingaromaministries

As I was praying about a situation in one of my children's lives this morning, I was reminding God of His promises concerning all my children. And as I was busy reminding Him, He struck me with this thought like a ton of bricks being dropped in my lap! The writer of Hebrews tells us: "So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us." Hebrews 6:18 God cannot lie. His Word is Truth and the promises He has made in that Word are trustworthy. He is faithful, the Great Promise Keeper and until I see the rainbow of His promises come to fruition in my children's lives, I hold on to those very promises. I can place my hope, my confidence firmly on and in Him. Because I know...one day He will make beauty from these ashes. One day He will bind up this broken heart. One day He will breathe life into these dry bones. One day He will take out that heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh that beats strong for Him. One day He will turn this mourning into joy. And until He does, His joy will be my strength and I will praise Him, because He inhabits the praises of His people. What about you? Is there a promise you are waiting for God to keep? Will you remember that lying is the one thing God cannot do and praise Him while you wait? His promises are yes and amen in Jesus, place Your confidence and hope in Him and wait to see your rainbow. #godcannotlie #godkeepshispromises #heisfaithful #jesus #hope #rainbow #pleasingaromaministries

Sin. It's not just a bad habit that we can overcome with sheer willpower. No sin is something that we are all born with. Sin is a fact of life on this fallen world. Sin is what killed Jesus. Our sin is what kept Him on that cross when He could have called down legions of angels to save Him. Instead He suffered and died so we could be saved from eternal suffering because of our sin. And if our sin killed the very Son of God why do we not think it will kill us too? Why do we think we can "get away" with that little habit that keeps us separated from our Holy God? Paul said it like this: "The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so...But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness." Romans 8:6-7,10 Who rules your life? Sin and death or the Spirit of God and His life? If you need a little peace in your life you might want to look closely at the ruler of your heart. I know I have to daily die to my selfishness, my ways of doing and being and thinking and speaking because if I don't my sin kills Jesus every time. Living this Christian life is a choice we must make daily. Will I kill sin through the Holy Spirit's power or will I kill Jesus with my sin? "I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." "Who has despised the day of small things." Zechariah 4:10 Mommies of littles, you are living in the days of small things. The days when you do lots of unnoticed and often unappreciated things. The days when you feel what you do is insignificant and doesn't really matter. The days when you feel pulled in a thousand different directions. The days you wish would hurry up and pass but that you feel never will. Please hear me when I say they pass quicker than you can ever know. Please hear me when I say what you are doing is so much more than changing diapers and wiping runny noses. So much more than washing faces and kissing away boo-boos. So much more than doing mountains of laundry and picking up toys for the thousandth time. You see, what you are doing is raising little men and women. And your attitude while doing what you do is important. What you are doing has Kingdom significance. What you are doing matters to God. What you are doing is the most important job you could ever have for Him. So today, when you get to change that diaper, speak God's Truth over that little one. Today when you get to wash that face tell that little heart how special it is to God. Today when you kiss that boo-boo tell that little one of the Great Healer of our souls. Today when you get to do more laundry than you could ever have thought you'd ever do, sing God's praise for His abundant blessings. What you are doing is seemingly small...but your greatest work for God may not be something you do for Him but someone you RAISE for Him. So shine your light as you do the small things and point your littles to Him. #smallthings #raisethemforgod #motherhood #whatyoudocounts #eternalsignificance #pleasingaromaministries

Is there a battle raging in your life right now? Are you feeling defeated, discouraged, disarmed? Friend, if you have asked Jesus to be your Savior you don't have to feel that way. You see, Paul tells us in Colossians 2:15 that Jesus has disarmed the enemy. He has stripped him of his weapons. When Jesus hung on that cross He reduced Satan's army and limited his power. But Satan still roams the earth looking for someone to devour. He keeps fighting and as long as he does so must we. How do we keep fighting? We keep praying. We pray when we are discouraged. We pray when we feel defeated. We pray when we are frustrated. We pray when we are weary. We pray when there seems to be nothing happening, when the only progress we see is backward progress. We pray when we are surrounded. We pray when we feel like quitting. We pray until the victory comes because we are His and He has won. Be persistent in prayer. #prayer #victoryinjesus #battleplan #persistence #colossalchristians #growinggreatfaith #studygodsword #pleasingaromaministries
