I personally believe words mean just as much as actions perhaps even more depending on the situation. So it is important to choose what you say very wisely, especially if you work in a professional setting. Before you say anything ask yourself these 3 things.
Deficiencies can have a role in many of the conditions we work so hard to understand and help our patients manage. Often times, a condition can be worsened by a lack of a key nutrient, even if treated by a prescription medication, because one of the root causes is not addressed, and over time this can have a bigger role in the condition.
It’s not often talked about, or even taught in schools, but I think it is important to be aware of the role deficiencies can play so that patients can have a conversation about it with their own healthcare provider.
🌀Today’s focus is the role that low magnesium can have on hypertension (high blood pressure).
⚠️ Magnesium is a part of ~300 metabolic pathways in our body. In regards to blood pressure, it works to relax your blood vessels, resulting in easier blood flow.
When your levels of magnesium get low and you become deficient, your blood vessels constrict, which yields an increase in blood pressure.
Think of a garden hose with running water. If you been the hose or put a kink in it, the pressure in the hose increases and you can see that from the increased projection of water from out of the hose.
This is why if you have high blood pressure, talking with your doctor about magnesium or having your levels tested could be beneficial for this condition in particular.
I am not giving direct advice, as every individual is different and needs to discuss any supplement or medication changes with their doctor. I hope this has been helpful to see the role that nutrients can have on certain conditions 🙏🏻
