I'll never get enough of sleeping outside or being hidden away in Pisgah Forest.
I'm not really a plant person, but growing up, rhododendron were always my favorite. They're kind of a staple of the southern Appalachians. If you've ever spent time in the Blue Ridge, you know exactly what I'm talking about. They grow so thick up above Brevard, and there aren't many things I like more than how they almost feel like walls around campsites like this one. 🔥🏕
Sunstar sunset ⭐️🌅
Try this: look at a dark part of the picture — e.g. the rightmost 1/4 — for ten seconds. Then look directly at the sun (the one in the photo! not the real sun!). As your eyes adjust, you should see the glow subtly brighten & expand.

There aren't many places that make me feel as much at home as this spot right here. With so many unforgettable experiences in mountains all over the place, it's still easy to credit and remember that this is the place that lit the fire when I was a kid.
I live in Montana now, but I'm from North Carolina...so this week, I'm posting photos from one of the most underrated outdoor states in the country. If you know, you know.
