have you ever paid $35 for “sunset yoga on a rooftop 70 stories high looking over DTLA” only to realize the day of that a) wait. how can “sunset” yoga be at 630 PM when the sun sets at 530 PM? b) wait. how are we gonna be outside at 630 PM on a rooftop in pitch blackness when it’s WINDY AF and 50°F out?! and c) wait. how the fuck are we gonna do yoga in full coats hats gloves and socks?!... only to get there and realize it’s actually “yoga in the sky” INSIDE a (warm) room with crazy panoramic views of the city at night and you and a friend each get their own window spot?! and you look out at that view the whole class because you’re given headphones (which shockingly didn’t bother me during the class) that cancelled out the noise in the room so all you could hear was the live music the DJ was spinning and the teacher cueing the poses?!?! SUCH AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! and it taught me to keep my expectations low so that everything is that much better LOL! 😂😜🤗🙏🏼❤️ if you live in la i highly recommend doing this cause it was a solid flow too!! they have this going on only 2 more monday’s and then they’re switching it to sunrise yoga (outside lol) #namasfuckinte
I love this man. I remember when I used to complain about his wanderlust. We can’t do that, we’re parents. We have responsibility. What would it look like if we took off all the time? Kids have school (elementary years, please). Those were the idiotic questions or statements I would say to him when he would suggest a trip for us or our family. What an idiot I was. How fearful I was of disrupting what I thought a very controlled life. Those stories I told myself how parenting should be, listening to others, expectations, or worrying about our image and perceptions. I could kick that old girl now. Through our travels and exploits I learned we are one spiritually. We all strive for the same. We fear the same. We are one. I owe that to this man for when he called me out and made me go despite my protest. Thank you. Thank you for teaching our children life isn’t within the small box of Texas we live even though its great. It’s so much more expansive, harsh, loving, and beautiful. I owe that to him. To what it’s taught me and my kids. So now when he says let’s go see...I say when?
I challenge you today to stop and listen to your inner critic, a story you tell yourself that really doesn’t ring true yet you fall prey to it over and over again. Is it to please someone, an old idea, perception, or expectation? Ask yourself, “Who would I be if nobody told me who I was?” (Thanks Jen Pastiloff for that question) What would happen if I dropped that story? And then, Can I have the courage to go live that way?
